What isn't covered?

Unfortunately, we can't cover everything, including loss or damage caused by:

  • deterioration, wear and tear, corrosion and rot
  • chewing, scratching, tearing or fouling by pets
  • storm or flood damage to gates, hedges and fences

Enhance your insurance with additional cover

Accidental loss or damage cover for your personal possessions

You can protect valuables and personal belongings worth up to £2,000 each (and money up to £750) against accidental loss or damage away from home. So you'll be covered if you lose a mobile phone or if your bicycle is stolen.

Valuables and personal belongings worth over £2,000 can be listed separately on your home insurance policy.

You'll be covered for items such as:

  • watches and jewellery

  • cameras

  • laptops and tablet computers

  • mobile phones

  • portable music players

  • clothes and luggage
Home Legal Expenses

Protect yourself against the cost of being sued or making a claim against someone

You'll be covered for legal costs for pursuing, defending and managing disputes.

  • Access to a 24/7 legal helpline

  • Up to £100,000 cover for legal expenses

  • Plus access to a range of free online legal documents – including a free will, checked by a qualified lawyer

What's covered?

We'll provide cover where it's more likely than not your claim will be successful for disputes in relation to:

  • Death, physical injury or clinical negligence

  • Contract disputes for goods and services, or buying and selling your property

  • Protection of property (excluding boundary disputes)

  • A full enquiry into your tax affairs

  • Defence against your legal rights as an employee

1 We'll replace any lost, stolen or damaged items with new ones where available, or give you the cash. If a cash settlement is agreed for any items, it will be limited to the replacement cost to us. The Home Insurance Policy Booklet has full details.

2 We'll pay the costs we've agreed in advance for alternative accommodation if your home can't be lived in due to an insured event. The accommodation will be of a similar size and standard to your home. For any one claim, you're covered for up to £75,000 with Platinum buildings insurance, or up to £25,000 with Platinum contents insurance. The Silver and Gold levels provide lower amounts for accommodation.
