Description
The competition began in the 1980s to resolve a dispute between local farmers over who had the longest nettles, and a date was set for a public comparison. During one competition, a contestant brought in a nettle over 15 feet long, and challenged anyone to beat his record, promising to eat his if anyone found a bigger weed. You can guess what happened next. Alex Williams was true to his word, ate his nettle, and the championships were born.
Supporting attractions over the weekend include an all-day Hog Roast and barbecue, live music, children`s entertainment and a beer festival offering at least 15 real ales.
