AA patrols were on hand to lend their technical and AA membership knowledge to London’s finest recently when they supported the much-loved Magical Taxi Tour.
The AA’s support for this year’s event is a continuation of a long-term commitment by its patrol volunteers who provide technical and logistical expertise during numerous charity runs held by London’s taxi drivers throughout the year.
“It was an honour for me to be part of something so special"
This year’s tour, which is aimed to make Disney© dreams come true for more than 200 sick and terminally ill children, saw nearly 100 black cabs and support vehicles make a return trip to Disneyland Resort in Paris. The event was further supported by City of London Police, Gendarmerie Nationale, and London Ambulance NHS Trust.
During the tour, the patrols carried out running repairs, including an engine repair in the Port of Calais and maintenance checks such as lights and tyre checks to help keep the show on the road.
This was the seventh Magical Taxi Tour for AA patrol, Andy McMorran, who led fellow patrols, Max Lamond, Simon Cox and Dan Tyrrell on the 560-mile round-trip from Canary Wharf through the Eurotunnel to Disneyland Paris and back.
Speaking about the trip later, he said: “As AA patrols, we’ve enjoyed a long and successful relationship with London’s taxi drivers and we feel honoured to be asked back on the tour time and again, in addition to keeping these guys on the road all year round. For me, and the other patrols, this is undoubtably one of the main highlights of the year for us.”
Max Lamond, AA Recovery Patrol of the Year, said: “It was an honour for me to be part of something so special. Everyone was so welcoming to the convoy as it passed through the various towns and villages along the route. Seeing the crowds continually waving is something that will stay with me for a long time.”
