Drivers have named the AA the UK’s most reliable breakdown cover provider in an independent survey of 15,384 motorists by What Car?
The AA took the top spot for breakdown cover in the 2018 What Car? Reliability survey, which asked drivers whether their car had broken down in the previous 12 months and, if so, what level of service they received.
Fastest to arrive
The UK’s biggest provider of breakdown cover came out on top as the fastest to arrive at a breakdown – in most cases taking between 30 minutes to an hour - and was least likely of all providers to keep drivers waiting for more than two hours. It also emerged as the leading provider for getting vehicles going again with either permanent or temporary repairs.
The best at permanently and temporarily fixing cars
Claire Evans, Consumer editor at What Car?, said: "Car breakdown cover is something you pay for, but hope you won't have to use. If you do, you'll want to know that help is on the way quickly and that the car will be fixed whenever possible. The AA not only got to stranded motorists the fastest, its patrols were the best at permanently and temporarily fixing cars at the roadside, helping motorists continue with their journeys."

Our patrols' dedication shines through
Edmund King, AA president, said: “AA patrols often say they attend to the member first, then the vehicle. This dedication shines through in the service they deliver for more than 10,000 drivers a day; fixing eight out of 10 cars at the roadside and typically arriving at a breakdown in less than an hour.
“We’re thrilled that the experiences of our members clearly reflect our commitment to delivering the best possible service when they need us.”

Gareth Kirkwood, Managing Director of AA Roadside Services, added: “This recognition from What Car’s independent Reliability Survey is a fantastic testament to our hardworking roadside and contact centre teams, who routinely go the extra mile to get our members back on the road as quickly as possible.

“Our patrols’ ability to fix vehicles at the roadside in all conditions, either with a permanent or temporary repair to get them going again, is something we know matters a great deal to our members. And those whose vehicles can’t be repaired at the roadside can rely on our dedicated recovery operators to safely get them where they need to go.”
