Devon revealed as summer holiday capital of the UK

Devon, Cumbria and Dorset are the top regions for hotels with facilities suitable for long hot summer days

Devon has been revealed as the UK’s top county for summer-ready hotels, in an AA study to mark the holiday season.

AA data reveals Devon to be the number one destination for hotels that offer facilities perfect for the summer season, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, golf courses, tennis and squash courts and family entertainment. The county has 99 hotels that offer one or more of these services, with Cumbria a close second with 76, and Dorset following with 73.

In total, 1095 hotels registered with the AA have summer holiday facilities, making them the perfect places for a staycation as the UK continues its record-breaking summer of sunshine.

The UK’s best hotels for summer holidays

The AA’s top recommendations for a summer stay in the country not only offer a range of popular summer features such as swimming pools, tennis and golf, they also feature a few more unusual forms of summer entertainment. The AA’s top summer hotels include:

  • Rockliffe Hall, County Durham (nordic walking, childrens play area, woodland pods)
  • The Grove, Hertfordshire (walk and cycle trails, giant chess, driving range, kids club)
  • The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport (golf academy, archery, laser combat, adventure golf, treetop ropes courses, laser clays)
  • Stoke Park, Buckinghamshire (spa facilities, garden lounge, yoga, tennis and golf academies)
  • Ashbury Hotel, Devon (badminton, shooting ranges, ten-pin bowling, 5-a-side, sports simulators, exercise classes)
  • Calcot, Gloucestershire (clay pigeon shooting, archery, cycling, running track, segways, disc golf)
