"The AA rescued us from the 1960s"

"It was New Year’s Eve and my partner Tom and I fancied popping out somewhere a bit special before going back home to see the new year in. So I put on a vintage dress circa 1950s/1960s and Tom wore a tuxedo from the same era. We then got into our classic Mercedes 280SL and drove to the centre of London.

"We were just cruising down Park Lane when the battery conked out. You can imagine how we must have looked, with me in high heels, pushing the car to one of the many plush five-star hotels there. We rang the AA and waited while the clock ticked towards midnight.

"Luckily we didn’t have to wait too long before the AA Patrol arrived. He was a bit surprised to see a couple dressed from a bygone era drinking non-alcoholic cocktails outside a posh hotel, but he knew the model well and soon fixed the problem. In fact, we managed to get home five minutes before the chimes of Big Ben."
