"When details came in for a breakdown simply referred to as ‘blue pig, size of a small car’, I thought someone was having a laugh. But as it turns out, it was no wind-up.
"Rather than being confronted by a genetically modified piggy, it was a six-feet long, 40kg piggy bank on a charity run.
"As part of the ‘Pig Pull Challenge’, two men were aiming to raise money for charity by pulling their porcine friend on a tandem bicycle from Glasgow to London via as many cities as possible.
"During the trip, while cycling between Longhorsely and Morpeth in Northumberland, disaster struck – the joint between the pig and the trailer snapped. Although it was looking bleak, the intrepid duo refused to admit defeat and promptly called us.
"When I arrived on the scene and began loading the giant pig onto our van, I couldn’t stop laughing. But I soon realised that this was one piggy that needed urgent attention so I headed straight to the local depot for repairs. We attracted a lot of interest – one guy overtook us twice as he couldn’t believe his eyes!
"We soon got the piggy all fixed up, ready to get back on its journey home, and I was proud to be part of the team that made it happen.
"We always put the member first, but this is the first time I’ve been out to a four-legged one – it has to be the most unusual and amusing call-out I’ve ever had!"
