"I work at the AA headquarters in Basingstoke, Hampshire. As it’s an office job, and I’m a keen cyclist who likes to keep fit, I often go out for a ride in my lunch break. On occasions, my workmate Ian Hemstock comes with me.
"On one hot June day, we were cycling down a country road when we came across a motorcyclist in his leathers who was trying to wheel his rather large and powerful motorbike up a ramp and onto a trailer. Naturally, we stopped and asked if we could help and he accepted.
"After we'd got the beast safely onto the trailer we asked him what had happened. Rather sheepishly he admitted that he had filled the bike up with diesel by mistake and this was the spot where it had finally conked out. He'd managed to get a lift home and returned with his car and trailer to pick up the bike. At this point he also let drop that he was an RAC member. Ian and I didn’t say a word."
