I was in the small French town of Villedieu-les-Poêles in Normandy (which was part of the D-Day tour I was on) when I accidentally locked my keys in my car. And to make matters worse, my spare was at home - 500 miles away in West Derby, Liverpool.
I called the AA thinking that they might be able to give me the name of a local garage or something that may be able to help. I was pleasantly surprised when they said that they would arrange for someone to come out to me.
However, I was even more surprised when a British AA van turned up. And you could've knocked me over with a feather when the patrol got out and greeted me with a Scouse accent. But I was left speechless when I found out that he actually lives just a few streets away from me - talk about a small world.
It turned out that the AA bases a few of its patrols in France over the summer to support local garages to help AA Members - and Martin was one of them. Anyway, he managed to get me reunited with my car keys, and if we ever meet again, hopefully it will be nearer to home.
