"I have a really old car. In fact it’s over 17 years old and it’s prone to the odd hiccup every now and then. So I’ve had to call the AA out on a few occasions. The last time though, it was my fault and not my poor old car’s.
"I was driving home after work, when the petrol light came on. As it was the night before payday I hadn’t put any petrol in the car, hoping I would get by on what was left in the tank.
"Some hope! I was going up a hill when my car started chugging. I managed to get over the brow when it finally died on me. After several attempts to restart the engine I gave up and pulled over to the side of the road with my hazard lights on.
"Immediately I got my mobile out to call the AA. Guess what? The battery was flat. I knew there was a restaurant nearby, so I got out of the car and walked there to use the phone.
"The AA patrol only took half an hour to get to me, which was brilliant. Unfortunately, I had left the car lights on, so now the battery was dead too. How embarrassing! The patrol had a little chuckle at that, but he put some petrol in my tank and jump-started the car and I was soon on my way again. And the next day (payday) I put a full tank of petrol in my poor old car."
