"One night last year, when my car wouldn’t start, I called the AA. Even though the weather was atrocious (it had been snowing and the wind was bitter) the patrol got to my home well within the quoted time.
"After some time, he told me that there seemed to be a problem with the fuel pump. As the weather was so bad and as I was in no danger because I was at home, he said that the best thing to do was to call the AA again in the morning and arrange to have the car taken to a local garage.
"The next morning I did exactly that. The patrol called me on his way and said that the road conditions were very difficult, but that he'd come and access the situation and see if he could tow me as a truck recovery would not be possible. On arrival, it was clear to him that the state of the roads where I lived meant that he couldn’t recover the car himself. However, instead of simply telling me this and leaving, he took it on himself to take a look at the car.
"He discovered that it was actually air trapped in the fuel system that was causing the problem and managed to fix it there and then – saving me a small fortune."
