"Earlier this year I bought a campervan from someone in Gloucester. Simple enough you’d have thought and so did I (ignoring the fact that I am 64 years old, had just had an operation for cancer and live in Scotland).
"I travelled down by train and set off with my new campervan for the drive home. After a few hours I reached a service station and stopped for a rest. When I returned to the vehicle it wouldn’t start. I decided that the best thing to do was to join the AA – which I did over the phone.
"When the AA patrol arrived he told me that my alternator was faulty and he couldn’t get another one that night. I decided that I would stay with the campervan and drive back the next day. So he left, although he didn’t seem happy about it because of my health.
"After a bit he came back and said that his Control Dispatcher had booked me into a Travelodge at the AA’s expense. So my first night of camping turned out to be far more comfortable than I could have imagined. Thank you AA."
