I’ve been a patrolman for 8 years now, and have been in a fair few interesting situations. A few years back, I was called to help a member in a dire emergency.
I arrived to find a young Mum in a terrible state. Her keys and her new baby were both locked inside the car. It was a hot summer day and the heat was pretty intense. The baby was crying and obviously, Mum was getting more and more upset. I knew I had to act fast, but to make matters worse, the car was a difficult model to get into. As the heat rose and the baby’s cries became more desperate, I began to think this might be more serious than I could handle.
I took a few moments to calm myself before trying the window one last time, and walked around the other side of the car to gather my thoughts.
It was with immense relief that, standing on the other side of the car, I saw the passenger window was wide open. Baby was fine - apart from needing a nappy change!
