I work as part of the AA’s Social Media Team. This means that as well as sending emails, text messages and tweets on behalf of the AA to our members and customers, we also reply to them regarding any queries or comments they may have when they contact us through social media.
At the same time we monitor tweets that mention the AA in order to build up a picture of what people think of us so that we can continually improve our services and products. Obviously, people being people, you never quite know what they’re going to say. Or word it!
A little while ago we found a tweet from a member that really made us laugh. He had tweeted “Opening today’s post. Dear AA, if you’re going to send me ‘joint membership’ info, then could you please also send details of potential wives”. Well, I just had to reply to him didn’t I?
I emailed him to explain that sometimes the AA sends offers to members to allow them to extend their cover to include someone else. I then said that while this one was obviously not for him, we hoped that he would benefit from one of our offers in the future. He emailed back saying “Dear Sir/Madam, While I am incredulous that you will be able to find me a wife, I was too amused by your message to not reply.”
With a sense of humour like his, I’m sure he won’t be single for long.
