"Things aren't always what they seem"

"What I like about this job is that every day is different. In fact, there are times when even routine jobs can turn out to be anything but.

"One call-out that springs to mind still brings a smile to my face every time I think of it. I was asked to attend a member whose Land Rover Discovery had a flat tyre and needed a wheel change. It sounded like the kind of run-of-the mill job that we get every day. Not this one.

"It had been raining and, although it had stopped when I arrived, the roads were still fairly wet. The member was standing by the car so I asked which wheel was the flat one. As soon as I saw it my suspicions were aroused. The wheel was in a puddle hiding the bottom of the tyre and the member had mistaken this for a puncture. I nearly burst out laughing there and then. After I’d explained the situation, the member saw the funny side of it too."
