"It was about 6am and I was driving home on my day off when I passed a car with its hazard lights on, just off Shepherds Bush Green in London. Inside was an elderly lady, so I pulled over and went to see if there was anything I could do to help.
"The lady told me that she was on her way home after rushing her husband to hospital in an emergency. At the set of traffic lights on the south side of Shepherds Bush Green, her car broke down. She was disabled herself so felt very vulnerable. The police had pushed her car away from the lights and she was now waiting for the AA to arrive.
"I told her that I was an AA patrol but that I was off duty so didn’t have any kit with me, but that I would push her car off the road and onto the forecourt of a nearby petrol station where she would be safer. I then bought her some coffee and biscuits and waited with her for the final few minutes until the on-duty patrol arrived.
"Well, I may have been off duty but it was the least I could do."
