"I was called out to help a member who had got stuck in icy snow between two steep hills. What I didn’t know until I got there was that it was a very expensive sports car.
"Anyway, myself and my colleague carefully hooked it up to our AA Land Rover and towed it to the top of the hill so the member could be on his way. However, he was anxious about other hills he would come across on his way home. So I offered to drive the car home for him.
"I asked whether he wanted to ride with me or follow behind in the Land Rover. He chose to come with me.
"I’m fully insured to drive anything – and I’ve driven lots of different cars – but a powerful sports car like this one was a first for me. You only had to look at the accelerator and the wheels would spin like crazy. And the paddle gears took a lot of getting used to. We skidded and swerved, and at one point the rear of the car seemed like it was trying to overtake the front.
"I looked at my passenger and he was as white as the snow outside. When I asked again if he’d prefer to ride in the Land Rover he couldn’t get out fast enough.
"Anyway, we got to his house in one piece and without a scratch on the car. It was a truly thrilling, but also quite scary, experience."
