"You should never drive through a flooded road, as you can't be sure of just how deep the water is. Sadly, a lot of people still take the chance and end up stuck.
"One such ‘stuck in water’ job recently came through from Leek, (I kid you not). It involved a female member on her own who was quite distressed. Naturally we told her that help was on its way.
"As Benny and Andy Smith (aka Crispy) the two members of my team closest to the incident, were about 70 minutes away, I contacted a local patrol and asked him to go ahead and assess the situation. When he called back he told me that he was unable to get to the member, as the conditions were too bad.
"Crispy' called the member and said that he was on his way. Every time a car drove past, it pushed more water into the member's car. When our guys arrived, the police shut the road and were turning other vehicles away so the AA Special Operations patrols could kit up and wade in. After pulling the car and the member out of the water, they put her into the cab of their Land Rover to warm up while they got her car going again. Sorted."
