The world of motorhomes is different from other vehicles. For instance, there are coach-built and converted motorhomes. The latter is the affordable and low-key version, mostly based on large vans. Meanwhile, the coach-built motorhomes come in three types: A-Class (purpose-built motorhomes), low profile (with no over-cab) and high profile (with high-cab body and extra living space). When buying used, it is important to pick the right motorhome based on the number of occupants, factoring in the design and layout of the facilities, such as kitchen, bedding, storage and bathroom.
There is a big difference between a good motorhome and a bad one, and the thing you should look at first is the quality. This can often be the decider in how much you’ll pay. Providing your budget can stretch, it’s worth paying for a good conversion that feels well done and built to last.
Crucially, you need to think about how much sleeping space you need, depending on the number of occupants, as this is a quick way of deciding if you need a large or a small motorhome. After this, you should do all the key checks you do on any vehicle – look at the mechanicals, inspect for any signs of bodywork damage and check all equipment on the motorhome works as it should. Due to the number of things that could go wrong with a motorhome, it’s worth having it mechanically inspected before buying.
