Replacing the Starlet, the Toyota Yaris was an all-new model designed with a global audience in mind. Launched at a time when more people were contemplating downsizing to small cars, the Yaris reached showrooms in 1999 in both three- and five-door body styles. Fuel efficiency, space and affordability were some of its main priorities and these were carried on through the generations.
The second-generation Yaris was launched in 2006 with a range of versatile touches, with Toyota then launching the third generation in 2011 with the option of hybrid technology for the first time. In 2020, a fourth generation debuted with a new design, hybrid-only powertrains and a more upmarket interior to take on growing competition. In short, the Toyota Yaris is a perfect used car if you want the purchasing cost and running cost to be as low as possible.
