Who can open an account?

To be eligible for an Easy Access Savings account you’ll need to:

  • Be a UK resident with a UK address
  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Have a UK mobile number
  • Have UK tax residency only
  • Have an open UK personal account that can be used as a nominated account
  • Deposit a minimum of £1,000 within one month of opening your account

Interest is calculated on a daily basis and paid into your account on the first business day of the month. You’ll be able to see and access the interest in your account on the following day.

 

 

Could the interest rate change?

 

Yes, we may change the rate up or down. There are a few reasons for this, for example a change in the Bank of England base rate. You can find a full list of reasons for an interest rate change in section 10.2 Notification of changes to the agreement in the Easy Access Savings account terms (PDF).


We’ll give you at least 14 days' notice if the rates are going down and your balance is £100 or more. Otherwise, we’ll tell you before or shortly after the change.

What would the estimated balance be after 12 months, based on a range of deposits?


The following example shows how much you may be able to save over 12 months:

This is only an illustration of what you could save and assumes that no more deposits or withdrawals are made, that there aren’t any changes to interest rates or tiers, and any interest earned stays in the account.

 

 

How do I open and manage my account?

 

To be eligible for this account, you must:



  • Be a UK resident with a UK address
  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Have a UK mobile number
  • Have UK tax residency only
  • Have an open UK personal account that can be used as a nominated account
  • Deposit a minimum of £1,000 within one month of opening your account

 

You can apply to open an account by going to the ‘Apply for a savings account’ section. Make sure you take a look through all of the important legal information before you start your application.

 

You can manage your account online.

 

Payments in and out of your savings account can only be made to and from your nominated account.

 

You can only have one Easy Access Savings account and it needs to be in your name. We don’t offer joint accounts.

 

You need to deposit a minimum of £1,000 within one month of opening your account. If this minimum deposit isn’t met, we’ll close the account. After meeting the minimum deposit, you don’t need to maintain a minimum balance of £1,000.

 

If you choose to close your account, you won’t earn any interest for the month of closure.

 

The maximum balance you can hold in the Easy Access Savings account is £1 million.

 

The minimum balance you can hold in the Easy Access Savings account is £0.

 

 

Can I withdraw money?

 

Yes, you can withdraw money at any time. Just move the amount you want to your nominated account from your Easy Access Savings account.


You can only withdraw up to £10,000 from your account each transaction, and £20,000 over a rolling 24 hour period.


If you close your nominated account, you’ll need to set up a new nominated account to withdraw money.

 

 

Definitions

 

Annual Equivalent Rate (AER)

 

The interest rate if interest is paid and compounded once each year. AER helps you compare the rates of interest on different accounts.

 

Compound interest

 

Interest earned on interest that’s already been paid.

 

Gross rate

 

The interest rate you’re paid on your savings with no compounding.

We pay all savings interest without the deduction of tax. You may have to pay tax on interest earned depending on your Personal Savings Allowance. The tax treatment may change in the future.

About our savings accounts

 

What's an easy access savings account?

 

With an easy access savings account, you can take out your money whenever you need it. This type of account is a good choice if you want to put money away for emergencies, or save up for something like a holiday or a new car. It's different to a fixed-term account, which locks your money away for a set time.



Is there a minimum balance I need to have in the savings account?

 

You’ll need to deposit a minimum of £1,000 within one month of opening your account. After meeting the minimum deposit, you don’t need to maintain this and your minimum balance can be £0.



When do I get paid interest?

 

We calculate your interest rate daily, and pay it on the first day of every month. Weekends and bank holidays won't have any impact on when interest is paid.



Can I have a joint savings account?

 

Unfortunately, we don't offer joint savings accounts.



Can I have more than one savings account with The AA?

 

You can currently only have one savings account with us.

 


Do you support Apple Pay and Google Pay?

 

No, the only way you can add money to your savings account is by transferring it from your nominated account. You can't top up your savings with a card.

 


Do I need to pay tax on the interest I receive?

 

Depending on your circumstances, you may have to pay tax on any interest you earn from your savings. Your Personal Savings Allowance will depend on the amount you earn. You can find more information about paying tax on the HMRC website.

 

 

How do I request a copy of my data?

Opening an account


How do I open an AA savings account?


You can only open an AA savings account online and you'll need to:

 

  • Be a UK resident with a UK address
  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Have a UK mobile number
  • Have UK tax residency only
  • Have an open UK personal account that can be used as a nominated account
  • Deposit a minimum of £1,000 within one month of opening your account
  • Have a valid photo ID


During the application, we ask you to take a photo of your ID and a short video of yourself - to confirm your identity and help us prevent financial crime.

 

 

Managing your account


How do I log in to my account? 

 

You can log in to your savings account here. Enter the email address you used to create your account and press ‘Next’. 

 

How do I change my personal details?

 

If you need to change your personal details (e.g. postal address, email or name), log in to your savings account and contact us through chat using the icon in the bottom right of your screen.

 

How do I make a complaint?

 

If you have a complaint, we really want to hear from you - so we can try and put things right, as well as improve our services for all AA members and customers.
Get in touch with your concerns and we'll aim to deal with them as quickly as possible:

 


 


What's your process for handling complaints?

 

Firstly, we’ll let you know we’ve received your complaint. Then we’ll give you a complaint reference number to use if you need to contact us. That way, we can find your information quickly.

 

We may need to talk to you to help put things right. So please give us your up-to-date contact phone number and email address.

 

You’ll receive a letter to acknowledge your complaint - along with our complaints leaflet (PDF) - within 5 business days, outlining the next steps.

 

We aim to provide you with our final complaint response letter within 3 weeks of the complaint being raised. If we need longer than this, we’ll let you know in advance.

 

 

Moving your money


How do I add money to my account?

 

You can make your first deposit and top up your savings account by transferring money from your nominated account.

 


How do I take money out of my account?

 

You can withdraw money by logging in to your savings account and selecting 'Withdraw money' from the dashboard. The amount you choose to take out will be sent to your nominated account. The maximum amount you can withdraw each day can be found in your account menu, under 'Account limits'

 

 

Closing your account

 

How do I close my account?

 

If you'd like to close your savings account, you can let us know by logging in to your account and selecting the chat icon in the bottom right of your screen.

 

 

Security

 

How do I report unauthorised access to my account?

 

Contact us immediately on 0808 502 2414 if there's activity on your account that you don't recognise, or you think someone else has accessed your account.

How can I register a power of attorney?

How do I notify you of a bereavement?

So that we can help you, we'll ask to see the death certificate and the will, if there is one. We'll also ask for ID for the executor or next of kin. In some cases, we may also ask for the Grant of Representation.
