HAD BMW 118D 2 DOOR COUPE FOR 9 YEARS BEFORE BUYING THE X1. SAME SIZE ENGINE BUT NOTICIBLE DIFFERENCE IN MPG BETWEEN THE TWO CARS. 4 WHEEL DRIVE PLUS THE AUTO BOX AND THE CAR BEING HEAVIER MAKE A DIFFERENCE AROUND TOWN. ALSO EXTRA WEIGHT OF THE PAN ROOF DOES NOT HELP THE MPG. THAT ASIDE I LOVE THE X1. ITS HIGH SPEC NOT ON RUN FLATS, SO RIDE IS SMOOTHER. TEST DROVE THE M SPORT X1 AND THE RIDE WAS SO HARD I THOUGHT MY FILLINGS WOULD FALL OUT! ENDED UP BUYING THE X LINE IT IS A JOY TO DRIVE. MY ONLY GRIPE ABOUT THE CAR IS YOU CANNOT ALTER THE ANGLE OF HEAD RESTRAINTS .

Total surprise with this car, came from 3 series m/sport 328i, so I was not expecting any sort of performance comparison, but what a drive! I'm sure the diesel is good' but not as good as this. Launch control on an suv, down shift revs compensation', even the 328i did'nt have that! I have had this vehicle for 6 months now, and my son asked how i was getting on with it, I said that I have'nt enjoyed a car so much since my Golf GTI mk2. The only thing I'd criticise is it's ability to cope with bad potholes, even on non runflats it can be severe. Can't wait to get in it again!

Now superseded by a new model, at least late versions of my model did not deserve the somewhat scathing reviews of the motoring press. It was strange how the most of the press also seemed to share the same opinions. I have owned many BMWs and this has been as satisfactory as any in terms of what it is intended to be.

Like the car very much, generally very reliable but somewhat disappointed to have to replace the differential at less than 40000 miles. Covered by extended warranty and very good service from BMW Santander.

A small 4x4 which is comfortable and roomy. The X drive is good kicking in when you need it. The diesel is economical giving 50 mpg on long motorway runs! A fun drive
