Last year I was expecting five of my wife's relations over from abroad for two weeks holidays. My car would only seat five including driver, so I thought of hiring an MPV. I was amazed to find how expensive this would be, so I decided to buy a cheap MPV with adequate MOT and service history and then sell it once my wife's family had left. I had a couple of months in which to find one, which allowed me to make an extensive search. Finding one with a minimum of seven seats proved difficult as most that were advertised only had six and even many of these didn't offer much leg room. One day I was lucky to see a Hyundai Trajet ( 2003 model) parked on the road displaying a for sale sign of £1,250 ono. It had just been fully serviced with new MOT. The tailgate had a small dent that didn't deter me, the inside was immaculate and the clock read a little over 74500 miles and most important of all - it had seven seats with bags of leg-room. On a test drive I found everything ran smoothly, a price was negotiated and accepted. The time came when my wife and I had to collect our 5 guests plus luggage from Gatwick airport. Everyone was seated comfortably and I didn't have to use the fitted luggage rack. We had covered over 1500 miles without a hitch during the fortnight they were hear. After our guests returned I sold the MPV for almost as much as I paid for it. So all in all it has proved to be far cheaper than hiring one, the only downside is taxing and insuring the vehicle, but this is to be expected and because I chose to buy one I made a saving of £450 against the average hire price of two weeks. This was over six months ago and I still miss it. Should I ever need an MPV again, I'll certainly go for a Hyundai Trajet.

This type of car can have the rear seats removed to accommodate mobility scooter etc.

Noisy, smoky, sluggish. I bought it because it was cheap. Indicator arm on different side to most vehicles, which is annoying as I frequently drive company vehicles and they are all on the other side, except for the Hyundai's we have!! Would not consider another Hyundai due to this issue and the strange handbrake system on a Hyundai at work.

I bought this car when it had already done over 50,000 miles. It is a very cheap large MPV, with an extraordinary amount of space, for people and goods. It is also very flexible, with removable seats etc. However, mechanically I not found it so good, presumably due to its age. Something else seems to go wrong every few months, usually not very expensive to repair, but all adding up.

We are a big family so need plenty of room to get around. We have owned Vw Sharan, Renault ESpace, Ford Galaxy and hired and driven at some time the Mercedes mpv, Chrysler, fiat mpvs all great in their own right but our Hyundai outranks the lot!! Cheaper than most on insurance and tax, getting about 34mpg and consistently reliable. Never let us down - especially during the most miserable rain or snow, always starts first time! Seats are very comfy - especially important trekking a family long distance, loads of leg room and even a reasonable boot space when the seats are all in use. Absolutely will keep motoring with this car then will eventually will replace with same! Hubby tried to replace it with a diesel Renault Espace which turned out to be a heap of junk and sold on after just 6 weeks, and I will be reminding him he was wrong for years, lol. Hyundai have made a BRILLIANT, no fuss economical, comfy, spacey family car that everyone should try!
