This is a good car to drive with the suspension being the comfort option is supple enough to take all but the worst potholes with ease. I my view is that there no need for a bigger engine as the 2.2 does all you need it to do. Economy for the size of car is good with regular 50mph hit on mid range runs. Couple of down sides is the fact it is a genuine 4 seater so getting 4 adults and a grandchild in is impossible. Servicing costs not cheap with main dealer. A service ok but b service can be expensive if you add the extras you have to have done to keep the bispoke recovery service by Mercedes going. Over all a lovely smooth car to drive and own with looks to match

Yes it's a bit thirsty, but with 5 litres you would expect that however I regularly achieve 28 -30 miles to the gallon. I purchased my CLS because of its outstanding looks. The original and I believe the best 4 door coupe on the market. Comfortable, quiet on motorways, "airmatic" suspension an absolute must together with bi-zenon lighting. Everything else is either provided as standard or isn't necessary. So far, (1 year plus) there have been no problems and recent B service cost was very reasonable (Independent specialist). My vehicle was second hand with some 63000 miles on the clock, well documented full service history and in very good cosmetic condition.

I bought this car in 2005 just as the model first appeared. The first time I saw the shape I was sure it would be the most expensive Merc available, it was like an E class price wise. Ordered new and collected from the factory and drove home. The car was superb, it still is, no major faults or issues, and it still turns heads. Good fuel economy with long runs 46mpg and round town 30mpg. It does go through tyres every 10-12k which is a lot. Mostly due to torque to rear wheels. Drives like a petrol car, this was my first diesel and apart from early start, it was better. Getting in and out of the rear is more difficult due to the slope shape, but once in lots of room. Boot is good too. Would recommend to anyone, changing for a Merc E cabriolet this time, mid life crisis!

Much noisier vehicle than previous Model, very disappointing. But very much improved fuel consumption.

Lovely car, I will be sorry to see it go in 3 years or so when it will be 10. However I do cycle a lot so only use the car for max 7000 miles a year.

I pay an inordinate amount for road tax because of my engine. However, I only drive about 3500 miles per annum. A smaller car, paying perhaps no road tax, but being driven many thousands of per annum, can produce more pollution than me. When will the AA strive to have road tax amortized with fuel to prevent this anomaly.

Very good car, although one complaint is the amount of road noise on some surfaces. The Mark One CLS was very much quieter and therefore Mercedes must be reducing the amount of and saving money on sound insulation in the current model. Also their windscreen wipers are not good at detecting rain on intermittent wipe position. frequently have to use windscreen wiper switch to clear the windscreen in intermittent conditions. Otherwise very good, with excellent fuel economy for the size of the vehicle.

An excellent model from a top class manufacturer.
