Overall rating 4.5/5Seat has really found its feet since being part of the Volkswagen Group, particularly with popular cars like the Ibiza and Leon. But buyers had to wait until 2016 before they could get an SUV from the Spanish firm, with the Ateca being its first.
Launching at the end of the year with a range of petrol and diesel engines, the Ateca was a quick hit with families who valued its sportiness and stylishness, which really put it ahead of the competition. The Seat Ateca represents a solid used car proposition thanks to its good levels of reliability. Plus, all versions of the Ateca have come well-equipped with this SUV benefitting from plentiful technology across the board.
As seen on other Seat models the Ateca has a more flamboyant design when compared with the Volkswagen, while a range of distinctive colours help this car to stand out even further.
The Seat Ateca gets a good selection of safety equipment including a full suite of airbags which looks after both front and rear occupants. It also gets Autonomous Emergency Braking, a speed limit assist system and a special braking system that can detect when pedestrians step into the road ahead.
The engine range of the Seat Ateca starts with a 1.0-litre petrol unit and progresses through 1.4-, 1.5- and 2.0-litre petrol engines. There are also two diesel options - a 1.6- and a 2.0-litre - available in different states of tune. There’s the option of manual and automatic gearboxes, too.
As standard the Seat Ateca features air conditioning and a multi-function steering wheel which allows you to control various systems without having to take your hands away from the wheel. Higher grades then incorporate extra features such as cruise control, parking sensors and an infotainment system, while later versions get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring technology.
Fuel efficiency is good across the board for the Ateca, with diesels able to return a claimed 64.2mpg combined. However, even the petrol versions should manage 54.3mpg in their most efficient layout, while even higher-powered units can manage over 50mpg. There is a four-wheel-drive version available too but remember that this will bring higher running costs.
The Seat Ateca is a popular family car and because of this it’s well worth checking any used example for interior damage and exterior issues, such as small prangs where a buggy may have hit the vehicle. However, for a more in-depth look at a car, an AA Vehicle Inspection could help. It’ll provide a great level of detail about any car you’re looking at thanks to a full inspection by a trained engineer.
Yes, Seat Ateca cars have a good reliability record. However, an AA Vehicle Inspection can make sure that nothing is left unchecked, with a trained technician taking an in-depth look at any vehicle you’re considering the purchase of in order to discover any issues which could be hiding underneath the bonnet.
Engine choices for the Seat Ateca range from a 1.0-litre petrol through to a 2.0-litre diesel.
