What’s covered by a Protect Plus warranty?

It covers you for almost all of the original mechanical and electrical components of the vehicle.

Components

Almost all of the original manufacturer’s mechanical and electrical components

Additional miscellaneous parts or cover

Water ingress, external oil or fluid leaks, corrosion, overheating damage and any machining or skimming to cylinder head

Air conditioning

Air conditioning (factory fitted)

Batteries

Standard 12v batteries - for 6 months from the start date of the policy High and medium voltage batteries of electrical and hybrid vehicles

Brake system

Brake disc, brake drums, brake friction material, seized brake calipers

Camshaft timing belt

Camshaft timing belt – providing there is proof that the manufacturer’s replacement recommendations have been complied with and it's free from oil contamination Oil contamination

Casings

Casings in the event of a covered item causing damage to it

Diagnosis

Diagnosis once a claim has been agreed

Electrical system

Wiring looms, heater elements, (excluding heated seats), head up display, tracker systems, all light units

Engine

Turbo / supercharger engine parts (factory fitted) Carbon build-up, cracked blocks, exhaust system, exhaust manifold, incorrect fuel (or any damage caused as a result), clearing of fuel lines, gaskets (except head gasket), any sealing material or compound, core plugs

Exhaust

Diesel particulate filter / catalytic converter Carbon build up, corrosion

Gearbox

Manual gearbox, automatic gearbox & semi-automatic gearbox Clutch friction material

Hybrid and electric vehicles

Hybrid and electric vehicles - manufacturer supplied and fitted power generation and transmission components Electrical connectors, wiring, batteries and the disposal of chemical waste resulting from a claim

In-car entertainment / sat nav

In-car entertainment / sat nav up to the claims limit selected Non-factory fitted systems and software updates

Keys

Remote key fobs / key cards covered for electrical failure up to £200 (Inc. VAT)

Oil

Oil seals – engine, gearbox, differential, turbocharger (or supercharger) causing a major oil leak (dripping oil) requiring immediate replacement to prevent consequential damage Oil staining and oil misting

Parts

Parts replaced as pairs – coil springs, shock absorbers

Serviceable items

Software, software updates and/or adjustments (excluding those which are required to complete a repair), key blades, air conditioning recharging (covered if part of the repair), hoses and pipes, perishable rubber items, hardware e.g. bolts and fixings and any other serviceable items that requires routine change or maintenance

Vehicle trim and body work

Chassis, bodywork, locks, interior and exterior trim, glass, panoramic sunroof, fabric roofs, tyres, alloy or steel wheels, fuel tanks, air bags

Wear and tear

Wear and tear up to 85,000 miles on mechanical and electrical parts

Working materials

Working materials – the replacement or topping up of oils, antifreeze or other fluids, or replacement of the oil filter

Car hire

In the event of a valid claim and provided that the repair time is in excess of 8 hours, a maximum of £50 per day inclusive of VAT (excluding fuel and insurance) may be claimed for up to a maximum of 7 days (related to the actual repair times from the time repairs commence). All car hire must be authorised prior to the start of the hire period and will form part of the claim limit

Mechanical and electrical breakdown cover in Europe

Extended cover to your vehicle when used within Europe for a period not exceeding 60 days per year. In the event of a mechanical breakdown in Europe, you must comply with the claims procedure. In the event of a claim, reimbursement will be based on the GBP Sterling exchange rates prevailing on the date that the claim is agreed

Overnight accommodation and rail fare

Hotel expenses or return rail fare will be reimbursed up to a maximum of £60 per night or per journey (including VAT) up to a maximum of 7 days from when the repairs begin. This is providing that the vehicle is rendered immobile due to a claim under the terms of the policy. Receipts will be required in the event of a claim. Drinks and meals are specifically excluded

Vehicle recovery

In the event of a claim, tow-in charges up to £50 including VAT will form part of the claim limit
