This is my second MX5 and was bought having been so impressed with the first one. I moved up from a 1.8 sport to the 2.o Sport Tech and was pleasantly surprised by the improved fuel consumption even though the engine was larger. The trim and instrumentation is impressive as is the hard top which folds into the space between the boot and seats, and not into the boot so the space you see is the space you have in the boot. All in all, an excellent car.

I've had my 1993 MX5 Miata since 1994. I bought it second hand in Florida then shipped it to the UK in 1996 when I moved here. It has the most comfortable seats I own and because it is rear wheel drive it responds better than most cars in rain and snow (surprisingly!) It's been pretty reliable (occasionally something needs replacing so it's not perfect) and even a left hand drive is pretty easy to drive here and in most places other than really tight country roads with hedgerows - clearly the right hand drive would be easier. It's not a roomy vehicle though but I've moved things in it that would surprise you! Even 20 years later it's still a sexy and sporty car and good for getting around London and great in the countryside during the summer.

Reliable, affordable sports car. Bits skitty at the back end so have to compensate for that in wet and icy weather. All round good value and fun even in the winter.

The ease and pleasure of having the roof down (folding metal) on the rare days of clement weather is a joy in my dotage. Just one passenger is a bonus -even though my mother-in-law is no longer on this earth. Reliability and durability is also an important issue in my choice.

I love everything about my car! It's simply a joy to drive, and to look at. It's economical despite taking super unleaded and once you're used to being a little heavy on the accelerator when first setting off you'll be making excuses to go out in it. Stylish, comfortable even on long journeys and a generous boot. I can't fault it.

corners wonderfully, nice torky acceleration even though Absolute 0-60 figure not that impressive. Wonderful to drive - puts a smile on your face. Motorised convertible roof (hardtop)works a treat and very quick to put and down. excellent standard fitings - all leather, nicely finished, aircon and heated seats. Fuel consumption initially quite poor (around 27mpg) but became quite reasonable once it had chance to run in - typ 33-35MPG on a long trip depending on how hard its driven can drop to around 27mpg if driven hard. Not that practical or spacious - but thats not what I bought it for! nonetheless it will comfortably fit a couple of 50L rucksacks in the back + walking boots & jackets etc. Looks great and very sporty too. OK doesn't compare with a Porsche, but .....

The MX5 gives all the joys of open top motoring that the traditional British sports car gave, but it is reliable and comfortable. Handling and acceleration both give the fun of old and makes even routine journeys seem more alive. Not expensive on fuel, insurance or servicing either.

Not built for space or comfort but the worlds best roadster doesn't disappoint. Not so good in the snow but this is rarely a problem in the UK.Drop the top and turn the music up!

This is the car that puts a smile on my face as I drive along. No loads of electronic gizmos so little or nothing to go wrong. Simple to service and highly reliable. Not the greatest fuel economy but made up for with the simple fun factor of this vehicle.

Bought my Mx5 as a toy after suffering a heart attack, loved the drive, wife hated it with a passion, dont expect a nice motorway cruise with a 1.6,engines reving it's head off at 70mph,mpg down to 30/35 if your lucky, take it on the B-roads or a track and you'll discover why this little car is so popular, amazing handling,tail-out on roundabouts and gets the smiles per mile off the clock, very reliable engine and box.. Now the downside... PLEASE CHECK FOR RUST this car is so disappointing in that department, everything underneath looks like it's lived on a beach in next to no time, rear arches and sills are renowned bad bits,if it's bubbling don't think its surface rust,a hell of a job to get done right, patching just doesn't do it and is a waste of time,if seller says it's been done ask for photo's or walk away, problem starts with people not cleaning out the various drain holes, find where they are are do it regularly, it's also now becoming more common for the front chassis rails in the engine bay to practically rot away like a 70's AlfaSud/lancia etc, cant be seen with the under tray on so it's get under and get it off and have a prod, again, due to the design of the front legs under-sealing/injection etc doesn't stop it, there is good cars out there but please take care, mine was an import with low miles and spotlessly clean but I just couldn't afford to keep it knowing what could be looming round the next winter or two.. Very disappointing for a modern Japanese car.

Mx5 probably the best small roadster around. Mine is 13 years old, cost around 3k, i drive it every day and it is a joy to drive. With planning you can even get a weeks camping gear in it. And I've got 6 or 7 bags of shopping in the boot. Mpg is mid 30s, insurance the same as a medium size saloon. You can lower the roof while waiting for the lights to change. Cheap, fun, practical and sporty, why drive anything else?

Great fun to drive, easy to park, limited space , totally impractical with elderly parents, expensive on car tax. Still love it though.

Had this MX5 since new. Still puts a smile on my face. Reliable and surprisingly practical. Long journeys on motorways can be tiring. Smooth driving and careful choice of tyres can give ~40mpg. Car clubs / specialists give good prices on spare parts. Comfort and Space score low : only in comparison to other "family" cars.

I have found the mx5 to be an enjoyable and reliable car to own and drive. The enjoyment of driving this car outways the cost and limited space.

The MX5 is just one of those cars that makes you smile when you drive it. From the responsive acceleration and good handling as well as the amazingly reliable mechanics and electrics to the sheer enjoyment of open top motoring made possible by a very effective heater this car is a winner. The Mk 1, with the pop up headlights, is very reminiscent of the classic British sports cars and has a vintage feel to the interior which adds to the romance of it without the hassle that a real British classic can wreak. I love my car and can honestly say it enhances any journey.
