After several other 'hot' hatches I returned to 205 GTI ownership. Not much compares to the feel of the old 205 these days. They're an appreciating classic and good ones are becoming hard to find. Rear beams are common faults and can be expensive to repair. They have several areas of concern when it comes to corrosion too. Engines are strong and simple. Gearboxes are good. For fun on the B roads they're great. Not much in terms of comfort, but there are some with PAS and Air Con (pretty rare). But if you want a weekend toy for occasional use then these are ideal. Still cheap enough to buy in fair condition, a driver's car that's there to be enjoyed. They're not that quick, they're not that safe, but as long as you buy with care and put some research into it you can't go wrong!
