So, I bought this X Type 3.0 Jag about 2 years ago, in my favourite Colour Racing Green, Beige Interior having previously had a 2001 S Type....had to take the usual "Mondeo" jibes from my friends :) and to put that record straight, its as near to a Ford Mondeo as the Sun is to the Moon....a Superb Car, yeah I had to do a few jobs on it, mainly Battery, Alternator and Radiator...oh and rear sway bar bushes....worth every penny. Drives as good as any car in its class, especially cornering ( AWD) much better for Motorway driving than urban, and very comfortable. Classy looking, last of the Jags and unlike many cars the 2nd hand value has gone up not down. If you are thinking of buying one i certainly would not put you off...just make sure its 3.0 v6 AWD in Black or Racing Green.... Steve W - Manchester

AWD Estate SE 2.5 Petrol owned for 2 years 95000 Miles lovely drive and ideal for my 4 German Shepard’s. Unfortunately it’s a bit of a money pit. Water Pump, then a massive service Sparks, Coil Pack and 3 O2 Sensors, and the cherry on top a rear Catalytic Converter. A cheap car to buy but not to maintain. Great drive and one of the fastest estates you can buy.

Still nice and tight to drive. Never really let me down although obviously some bits have needed replacing, eg sills, water pump, power steering pump, sat nav. But given the age and mileage this is a pretty short list. Electrical niggles still. But does 50mpg + on the motorway and 30mpg on the school run. Got the Sovereign and very comfortable. Parts easy to source and very cheap. Certainly got my money's worth. If you can find a good one to buy then go for it.

this is my second X Type. I love them! The Jaguar X Type will go down in history as one of the greats. Reliable, comfy, great on fuel, cheap for parts if you ever need them. All i have had to buy is a blanking plate for the dreaded egr. Cheap to tax, great to drive. There is something that makes me feel very special when driving my X Type. Oh yeah its a JAGUAR. not a bmw, or merc, or a crappy vauxhall. Love it. xx

I traveled from Birmingham to crystal palace on Saturday 14th April to the used car centre which took me 3hours to view a jaguar x type car when I arrived I was given refreshments which was very welcoming I was then taken to view the car which was in immaculate condition and left to view the car I was then invited to test drive the car then went back to the showroom to talk to the two directors after short negotiations I brought the car they taxed the car me so that I could drive back to Birmingham 236 miles round trip I found the two directors very good and not the hard type salesman as l left they said if in future if I wanted another car they would try to find the model for me this I will certainly do I can certainly recommend the used car centre in Croydon road  Anthony Dunn

I was attracted to a low mileage diesel x type but it was pricey. I found a petrol and had learnt that this was 4 wheel drive by researching online. It was a lot cheaper.. 30000 miles One owner. Sovereign silver. SE. Sat Nav, Bluetooth. My kids complained they couldn't stream spotify. Solved that with a little gadget on ebay that goes into the gig.lighter. So in 6 months I've replaced a battery. Spent £400 on paint to make it like new. £460 on a alternator as I was getting intermittent battery light. Without bragging I could easily have gotten a more expensive car. It was sheer impulse attracted to a cheap price with low mileage. Not cheap insurance. £305 tax. 25 mpg. BUT. I love this car. Best I've ever had. Was great in the snow recently as well.

I bought an old jag 6 months ago. 2.5 SE. I've had many cars. I currently lease a 2017 focus. I've has titanium s max, kuga. But this jag is something else. AWD. Fully loaded. So far I've spent £400 on paint. £460 on a replacement alternator (struggling) and a new battery (Bosch). I put the best fuel in it. So yes. I've spent a few quid. Rear windows to be tinted next weekend. But at 31500 miles work full service history I've got a great car. Averaging 26 mpg. In silver it's got to be one of the best on the road. It's impractical, over 12 years old....but I wouldn't swap it for a average new car. This car is very special.

THE CAR: A very stylish car. The proportions on the smaller Jaguar make it look really sleek & fast, much more so than the competition. Ok it might be a bit old fashioned, but it stands out & people comment on it more so than any of the competitors' bland cars. Performance & handling of the 2.5 auto is more than adequate & the ride is very smooth & comfortable. The interior is very luxurious & is typical Jaguar, making all passengers feel that little bit "Special". Economy: the published figures are accurate, 28.0mpg overall with up to 34.0mpg on a run, perhaps not the best, but the style, prestige & luxury more than compensate. THE CRITICS: "A Mondeo in Drag". Generally a comment made by people who know very little (if anything) about car manufacture. Yes, the underframe is modified Mondeo but Ford make good quality cars & it is common sense to make use of common parts where possible; everyone does it nowadays. The car was designed by Jaguar & 95% of the mechanics, & all of the interior are Jaguar. As for so called Jaguar "Purists"; the E-Type body was totally made by Abbey Panels, & the XJ6 & XJS bodies were made by Pressed Steel Fisher at what is now the Jaguar Castle Bromwich plant; enough said? THE COMPETITION: What competition? BMW & Audi are a triumph of marketing, ok their engineering & manufacturing quality is good but no better than the X-Type, or many other makes for that matter. BMW's & to some extent Audi's are becoming known as BOOT cars:- Bland & Boring, Overpriced, Overrated & Ten a Penny, which sums them up perfectly! (I owned a BMW 3 series, what a mistake! & got rid of it after 9mnths & that wasn't soon enough!!)

Had mine 12 months now. It's the sports premium. I've had it remapped and that gives me an extra 5-7 mpg around 1-1.5 seconds of 0-60 and I've no idea about top end. The car sticks to the road like glue, the acceleration is electric and the engine is packed with massive torque. All the gizmos, electric heated leather seats, sat nav etc. I would say it could do with a dab radio and maybe a USB port. Servicing costs are average and parts plentiful. Sports premium ride is very firm. Tends to go through rear bushes. The car is designed for motorway cruising and is a very comfortable cruiser. 2.2 engine is belter. One down side of the x type is the headlights, they are not particularly powerful on dipped beam . This could be rectified by stronger bulbs being inserted. The face lift model is a real head Turner, I've been complimented on numerous occasions by random strangers. Touch wood I've had no reliability issues so far apart from replacing rear bushes. The rear is adequate. if not massive. The boot a little shallow. I would certainly recommend the x type, it's an affordable luxury compact executive, get the engine remapped to unleash it's true potential. And improve your mpg to around 52-56 depending on driving style. Personally I can't see a down side to the car. It's a better overall package than the comparable priced AUDI or BMW. I can only think the reason it didn't sell in the numbers hopped for was due to the snobbery of the motoring press A cracking car at a cracking price. Buy one u won't be disappointed

To: AA Cars Dear Sir / Madam, The seller did NOT respond/answer in any way to my enquiry thus I wasted my time sending my question. Maybe you would be kind enough to ask them why they did not have the courtesy to reply please? It's a green Jag x-type estate, I cannot recollect now whether it was definitely a diesel 2.2, but had to complete the above form in order for it to transmit. I had to fill the stars in (above) because this email would not send unless that was completed. They are meaningless on this occasion however. I merely wished to tell you the seller did not correspond or call. Regards Reginald Morris [email protected]

So after my older jag was uneconomic to repair I decided to go for the X type It's a good looking car and practical too . The leather seats are comfortable even after a long journey the wood inserts and black trim compliment each other and make the cabin a nice place to be compared to my 3 series bm which flet like a hospital ward sterile and uninviting . The boot is huge apparently the largest in its class so golf clubs suitcases monthly shop the odd body all fit fine and if they don't you can drop the rear seats see Practical

Excellent car, very comfortable, drives well both on short and long distance journeys, luxurious interior, a truely great car. However, it is at it best on long journeys and motorway driving and does not like continuous short journey use.

Have had the car from new and it has been extremely reliable, with only normal wear and tear servicing required, which has been undertaken annually.

The vehicle was bought at 3rs old with 15,000 on the clock with full service history. The mileage has increased to only 60,000 and the car is regularly serviced according to the book. The car appears well made giving a quiet comfortable ride, across both local and motorway trips including numerous European countries. The running costs are very acceptable and overall the vehicle still looks good.
