In comparison to our previous car the fuel economy is fantastic. The front seats could be more comfortable for a long journey and the boot slightly larger to fit suitcases but on the whole we are very pleased with our purchase.

A great car, VW Golf Mk 6 - well built and nice to drive. Powerful enough for normal driving and pretty good fuel efficiency and just £30 a year to tax. Great sat nav and radio / dvd / hard drive. The mark 7 is even nicer to drive but they have made it just a little bit too big now - it wont fit in my garage !

Had the car from new. Been garaged. Both front wings started to rust 12 months ago. Only 47k miles. VW refused to repair them under their 12 year warranty scheme. They wanted me to actually pay more for them to repair them under there good will!? scheme than to get a local body shop to do the job. Although the car has been very reliable and economical I would never ever ever buy another VW. I have owned nothing but Golfs for the last 20 plus years. I did contact the AA who said they would get one of their legal team to contact me but that never happened.

I love my Golf. In winter with winter tyres on the front I have driven daily 50 miles return journey to work up until I retired. I feel safe in it and prepared to drive - I find other drivers are my makn worry in winter. My Golf has been reliable and I have kept it well maintained. My mileage to date is around 158000 and it continues to perform.

Smallest car we've had - bought when we retired. Like it quite a lot, it's been reliable and not too expensive to maintain/repair. However, we may decide to buy a slightly bigger car next time just for the extra comfort/space.

It has been a good reliable car, returning between 46 - 50 mpg. I bought it in 2007 with 49,500 miles on the clock and has 6,800 on the clock now, because after 299,999 the odometer has reset to begin from zero. During the time I have had it I have repld. lower frt suspn. arms (3 years ago, due to shocking road maintenance), battery, starter, alternator, track rod ends (these 4 in the last 2 years), 2 cambelts w/pump, 2 exhaust systems and 2 alternator / power steering belts. Tyres I would say some 32. Now, it has an engine water leak and suspected turbo oil leak, but I find it reliable for long journeys 200 miles+ . I am generally satisfied with the car and its reliability.

Well thought out car, quality fittings, but what a price. I am considering that when I next change in two to three years time I really need to drop the Brand Culture and buy something that goes from A to B reliably at half the price. It is just a car

Although it's a diesel it has quite a bit of power. We've owned it since it was a year old and apart from the brakes have not had any major expenses from it.

The best thing about this car is the 140hp engine. Very responsive, very good consumption (up to 80 mpg on a motorway run), and very quiet for a diesel. Reasonable levels of comfort and space for this type of car (hatchback), and a sturdy build quality. The cruise control is very effective and user friendly. Overall a very satisfactory quality family car......although not cheap to buy!

Ive owned several Golfs over the years and without a doubt this is the best yet.

Good solid car, adequate space compared to newer models and good consumption when driven in correct manor.

I'm on my second VW Golf and wouldn't be without. It is flexible - managing to accomodate small kids, baby seats and paraphenalia - to being a great teenager taxi, dog and outdoor pursuits carrier. Above all, it is reliable whether 300 miles or 30. Great fuel efficiency is possible and provides a target for longer journeys - c68mpg is current highest over 90 miles. If I was a golfer, I would have almost a scratch card!

A really great car that does everything I need it to. It's very reliable, fast enough to get me out of trouble in sticky situations, not too big and not too small. Cruises effortlessly and economically at 70, and with the injection system still has extra uphill even in 6th gear. Engine size makes insurance reasonable. It is comfortable, but leg room in back is not huge. It looks good and hasn't dated as so many cars do, and is the sort of car that is just right for someone like me who very much enjoys driving but isn't a 'boy racer'. I would recommend it to anyone wanting an all round, good looking, pleasure to drive car.

A pleasure to drive. Comfortable at any speed. Considering that she's a GT TDi Sport, she is as economical as the Peugeot 307 TDi I had with a smaller engine. By far the best car I've ever had. If you want a drivers car this is it.

Of the 16 cars I have ownwd over the last 56 years the Golf is the best I have ever had. Excellent design, precision manufacture, total reliability, amazing economy, excellent dealer service. I just hope my next Golf is as good.

Fantastic work horse of a car - very roomy inside to carry people or things. Very economical and reliable. Feels safe and sturdy and well built, yet light to drive and nippy at traffic lights!

Car is basically a GTi with a diesel engine, can't fault it as a driver's car. Excellent performance, yet still returns 53 mpg regularly, 60+ if driven sensibly. Handling, brakes, 6-speed gearbox all excellent. However car is let down by poor reliability, ABS / TCS faults, engine management faults, other electrical and electronic faults. Many problems require specialised equipment to sort, and VW dealer service costs are legalised extortion.
