Latest version of Polo is nearly as big as my first Mk1 Golf. Great car even with 1.0 liter engine - powerful enough on dual carriageway and space for 4 adults no problem - even added a tow bar for a small trailer - great car

Great zappie car, a lot more take off than you would think for a 1 litre - how far technology has come. Talking tech the infotainment systems are good but lag a little. Lots of features in this little car, you would be forgiven for thinking it punches above its weight in all areas. Downside is ease of getting in/out of car due to being low.

We've had this car since it was new. Used it ~40% highway/longer trips, 60% city. We always liked how comfortable it was for a supermini, if the suspension is kept well, it does deal with bumps very nicely for the size, of course this results in sportiness completely missing, it's not one for driving pleasure. Quite well-equipped: beige interior (which really puts the interior to another level, black and grey interiors of this car look very boring and depressing), board computer, digital a/c, 6 speaker sound system, etc. Not fully optioned, but a nice one. It always received good maintenance, yet it developed way too many problems for such a small car over the years. The electric windows all went bad, the driver side first when the car was only 9 years old, the rest shortly after - apparently it's common on these. Another common problem that is really annoying is the ignition coils are very prone to failure, and once one of them dies, the others shortly follow. We had to replace all four of them two times already (and we use Beru, which is the OEM part), and it's a real pain in the a** if one goes since it makes the engine run on 3 cylinders. We actually stocked up on a spare set, they can be replaced on the side of the road, but they are not cheap. Other than this, we had to fight way too many times with the A/C, basically almost every year it had an issue with that. Electronic problems occured, too, random EPC light has been coming on and then off for years and no one knows why (seems to be common as well without a clear solution), a/c and air circulation switch went bad, heating motor went bad, light bulbs on the rear go out a bit too quickly. The engine is so far so good, but it's been consuming oil since it was about 10yrs old. Not too much, about 1l/10k km, but it's there. Overall I think it's a more comfortable, more serious car than its' competitors were back in the day, the design is still alright and the materials of the interior are really good quality, but the maintenance costs are a bit too high for a vehicle of this class. To put it into context, we've also had many saloon cars since this Polo was around, BMW E39, BMW E36, Rover 75, those kinds of cars that people believe are very costly to maintain. Well, especially since this Polo turned 10, it's pretty close to them on yearly average service costs. We don't really want to sell it since we are the first owners and we still like it, but I wouldn't say it's a very good buy used.

2016 6 speed 1 litre R-Line. Or the better looking one, The R-Line package brings a more aggressive look to the polo with a black grille, sporty wheels and low profile tyres and LED headlights make a big difference to the street appeal. The car doesn't weigh much, which is good, because it's got no power (110 hp). The armrest and addition of a 6th gear makes this a bit better for long journeys and general comfort, but the low profile tyres in the R-Line do affect the ride. Surprisingly big boot, surprisingly fun to drive and reliable.

I bought my VW Polo 1.4 Match about a year ago, when it was 3 years old, to replace my X reg VW Golf 1.6 L which struggled to pass its emissions test for the MoT. The latest Polo is about the same size as my old Golf, more fuel efficient, slightly lower insurance and significantly cheaper in vehicle road tax. It also has bluetooth for hands free phone use. It doesn't have great acceleration, but is comfortable and so far hasn't given me any trouble, though I did need to replace the windscreen wiper blades after the previous ones stuck to the windscreen one frosty morning last winter. It runs very quietly too. I'm very happy with it.

Disappointed in vw not offering uk buyers compensation for their mistake and this will impact on my choice of the make of my next new car.

This car has been a pleasure to own and drive, with few issues. Downsizing from a Passat, I found the increase in turning circle something to adjust to. Also, the 5 speed manual was less stable in fourth gear at slower speeds, so there has been more driving in third. This is now less of an issue as my area is mainly restricted to 20mph.

This is a very solid little car with a big heart. Good on running costs, comfortable and surprising how much can be transported in such a small space. Well worth buying.

For an old, small car, this is fine for my daily commute of 32 miles each way. Cheap to run, not too noisy, though could become a bit tedious after a couple of hours. Seats fold down for a surprisingly large load space. Size means it's easy to park.
