Disappointed with attitude of dealership, totally disinterested unless they can charge for a repair.Tried two different VW garages with same problem with clutch, to be told there was nothing wrong. Took car to an independent garage who correctly diagnosed problem (clutch needed bleeding) took them 10 minutes and no charge !! Going back to Honda next time, far superior after sales.

Typical german build quality reliable and have suprised many petrol powered alternatives and left them standing when pulling away from traffic lights I'm not a boy racer but it does bring a smile to my face and can only imagine people saying I carnt believe I've just been left standing by a dirty old diesel.

Extremely happy with my VW Golf. I bought it secondhand from a VW dealer. Its got many added extras - heated leather seats, heated wing mirrors, headlamp protectors, climate control, sunroof. Unfortunately she's starting to show her age. Luckily, I've got a good independent garage that services her well.

Great car.Economical, comfortable, safe, reasonable performance. Unfortunately ,due to factory fault,2 to 3 litres of water leaked into spare wheel well.Repaired by dealer.

Great mileage to gallon. Took car to south of France recently and the motorway tolls rather than fuel were a drain on resources! Only needs servicing every 2 years and road tax £30 per year - whats not to like? Good boot space for the size of the car. Would definitely recommend this car to family and friends.

A very good overall car. The general servicing costs are quite expensive (i.e. Tyres, brakes, oil, etc) and the odd repair is expensive (i.e. Radiator, brake calipers). Uses a lot of oil (well more than I would expect) and bangs and crashes over potholes a lot, but then my car does have over 200K miles. The interior trim is poor quality (Mk5 GOlf). Very good real world fuel economy of around 50-70mpg (on a 25-35 mile each way commute).

Mechanics, handling, fuel consumption all excellent. Only gripes are the miscellaneous irritating rattles from the dashboard area that come and go

My first VW and I very pleased with it. Economy, performance and reliability good. Comfort and ride commensurate with this type of car. Would be better if rear seats folded down flat. Lacks a permanent mile recorder. Friendly, professional sales staff but bloody awful workshops - only went once now use small independent who specialises in VAG vehicles, at considerably lower rates.

Best car I have ever had

Honest. Does as it's supposed.....after 14 years and 150,000+ miles a few things, rear wiper for example, do not work. It rattles a little...(maybe a lot!)... but has never failed to start or arrive where I want it to go. Consistent 50-60 mpg (had 72 on a 19 mile rural journey once)

Different to driving a petrol and more powerful (higher Bh version) than previous cars. Much more economical.

Very happy with the golf. I get about 50 miles to the gallon, about 530 on a full tank. Commuting 30 miles a day, it's great news for me. I won't be changing it anytime soon.

Excellent general vehicle. Roomy and at home in town in the country and on motorways. Economical but with adequate performance when needed .Build quality seems not quite so good as previous models that I have had but still not bad. This is balanced out by the excellent engine. Nice firmish but comfortable ride and good cornering. In all pleased with vehicle

Reliable, economical to run

The golf estate is a super, economical family car used as personal transport. Used mainly on long motorway journeys with the boot full I often achieve 70 mpg (diesel). Regular travel to Normandy and back via Calais means the car nearly always runs on French diesel. So far only costs have been normal running costs. The original tyres lasted 50,000 miles.

I find my Golf to be easy to drive, holds the corners well. She is economical on the fuel and has so far proved reliable.
