This car is excellent. It has a full service history and everything works well. It has now done 174, 000 miles and I am changing the belts and the water pump this week - just in case. Original transmission and engine still going well. Key is regular servicing and getting under the hood and making sure that all the things ion the owners manual are being addressed - every week. It tows like a dream and is such a comfortable ride. The white leather seats are still fresh looking and smell great after thirteen years. This car easily rivals the best out there. Audi/Mercedes/BMW hold the top position for premium cars and I have always been a bit surprised by this. Know one thing. It is only Volvo and Daimler-Benz which have high mileage clubs.

Previous Volvo 940 saloon kept for brilliant 16years. Test drove all other estates over 6 month period in the end went back to Volvo and tested v70. Immediately decided to buy. Reasons comfort, solid, very fast, 40 mpg, very flexible load space. Looks great in silver. Volvo do not wreck future v70 by loosing space and comfort just for styling.

fantastic car, multi purpose, has never failed me despite having170,000 on the clock. Would always buy a volvos if possible, service through agency is excellent. Fuel consumption and emissions better on newer models. Wish someone would give me a new one!

very reliable and comfortable car to drive. You have you be prepared for expensive repairs as car ages but bodywork remains in good condition. At 11 years old no plans to replace as value low and would be expensive to replace in equvalent condition.

This is my 3rd Volvo since 1984. My first 2 passed through the 200,000 miles with no trouble. I thought this one (V70 Classic) would not make it. It was not the engine that concerned me but some of the peripheral components were failing. Rear door lock, electric window switches, catalytic converter sensor. I would say Volvo's new owners were not building such a durable car. On the whole I feel the car more than beats many of its rivals. Motorway cruising at 70mph is still quiet and the engine can still pack a punch when required. I am now at 190,000 miles so I am looking at replacements. I don't need the large load capacity and I may consider a V50.

Practicality of the ever trusty V70 estate, impressive comfort, huge load carrying capacity with the performance of a hot hatch. Awesome! Never under estimate the V70's ability to cover the miles. Drove from Brittany in France to San Sebastián in Northern Spain in approximately 10 hours, obviously with a few rest breaks, got to our friends home, quick coffee then out for an evening meal together! Try that in anything other than the V70. So there must be a down side. Nought to sixty in 7 seconds, top speed of 145mph and the ability to drive all day means this really isn't a town car. On a run you can get 38mpg. Local 22mpg. ..... And not to many crazy starts from the lights or you'll eat front tyres! Expect at least 150,000 miles before anything major (not including brakes and discs). Previous model I had went on to do 150,000 on top of the 130,000miles I put on it. Luckily had the opportunity to drive everything from sports cars, hot hatches to 4x4's...... And the Volvo is the best of huge bunch.

volvo v70 d5 is the most reliable and practical car. fantastic comfort, one of the safest car around and it takes a lot of cargo. This one has done 397000 miles without any repairs! Beat that if you can!

Bought the car new, does everything I want it to do without any fuss, is very comfortable to ride in will cruise without effort I like it a lot would buy another. The only gripe is the cost of the tax disc now. £475 a year is absolute robbery by the government.

The car suits my needs well. It is not particularly cheap to run (road tax, fuel, etc) but reasonable for it's size. I also feel very safe in the car.

Generally for a car built in the last century and with 164000 mile on the clock this car serves me very well. I carry large loads of plants and preserves to Street Markets and plant fairs over considerable distances The car has great capacity and thoughtful internal attachment points for awkward loads. Some of the ancilliary have failed (rear window motors, radio ) but these are inconsequential. We like the space, quiet and general comfort and safety when using the car for long journeys to meet friends or on holiday. I also like the easy facility for replacing headlight bulbs ( when the warning indicator comes on. Dislikes include cost of spare parts, door mirrors, suspension etc. I also find on a damp morning the car mists up in seconds and this can happen immediately when starting after a short journey which can be alarming and potentially dangerous.

My car is a blunt instrument. It is the family bus/taxi and and is reliable and practical as such. I enjoy driving it though especially as it is an automatic.

I have had this car from new, and have driven 107000 miles, it has been maintained by Marshall Volvo in Grantham. I am extremely satisfied with this car, apart from service costs the only item that has had to be repaired is on the car is a part on the alarm system. Being a big diesel engine, to my mind it is economical, with the type of driving that I do, my overall average is 47mpg and this can be raised on long journeys. My only criticism of the car is that it has low profile tyres and this restricts the turning circle, for a large car it can be a problem to manoeuvre in tight spaces.

A very nice car, but has required a lot of expensive remedial work that is hopefully coming to an end after 15 months, a new exhaust or catalytic converter may be due next year.

They may have the reputation of being a bit boring but if I want to be comfortable in a car with good performance and loads of space then this one does for me.

For a large estate car the V70 is very practical, quiet and comfortable. With a 2.5 turbo petro engine the performance is good rather than startling exactly as it was designed. Very comfortable for longer journeys but less practical in town and especially car parks due to a very restricted steering lock and huge turning circle. Overall though a good large family car.

The Volvo V70 Diesel 2.4 litre is the best car I have ever driven - and safer than most as well. I can put a cubic metre of logs in the back to save delivery costs while on a different day have 5 people and two dogs + some luggage. It costs around 17 pence per mile (I check cost against mileage every time I fill up)and I'm not sluggish. I have it serviced at a local garage so no expensive Volvo charges. My last one was still going well at 12 years old when someone crashed into the back of me when I was stationary. The Insurance company wrote it off despite my request to repair - the guilty driver should have paid!

The most reliable cars I have owned & very comfortable on long journeys. Petrol consumption not good but until car needs changing very happy to stick with it.

A very attractive and comfortable car. Extremely practical and can hold a large load with the seats taken out. I feel good driving it. Downside - it doesn't do as many miles to the gallon as the S40 I had previously, but it is still economical for its size.

I have had this car since 1998 it has been excellent. No complaints at all. After fifteen years some small patches of paint are peeling from the plastic parts of the bodywork like the rear spoiler. No other problem! From memory I think it has done 120,000 miles.
