I bought my car 10 years specifically to keep for life, either the car's or mine. It's lasted very well, me not so well. It is a B6 model and to me this was the zenith of A4 development. Just the right size, practical, economical, reliable and to my eyes, very attractively styled. So good, that at the end of it's model life, Audi couldn't bring themselves to kill it.So they shipped the whole assembly line to Spain, where they still build it as the Seat Exeo. How's that for a testimonial?

Good performance, very reliable, parts a bit expensive, but because of reliability, not often required. I use mine as a delivery vehicle, therefore high mileage and fairly heavy use, and it has never let me down. When cleaned it looks like a new car. Excellent!

This is my second Audi A4 Avant both of which have been turbo Diesels. They have both been very reliable and both have done over 150,000 miles without any major problems and very few minor poblems. They are an ideal size for my needs, very well built, comfortable and I consider them to be a well designed and good looking car. I have two classic cars and the Auidi shows how far cars have progressed in terms all aspects over the last 50 years. My wife has a 'new' Fiat 500 and that is ideal for town running but the Audi is superb over long distances and we never feel any aches or pains after doing long distances in it. I would recommend the Audi A4 Avant to anyone wanting a 'small' estate type car that does not feel any different to driving a saloon type car. It just has more practicality and feels very safe especially when transporting our grandson about in it, along with pushchair etc. I have had it 're-mapped' (my previous one was too) and it now has lots more power, but with much improved economy too. It was doing around 44mpg 'overall' but now achieves much higher mpg in the high 50's and with the increased power it is much safer when overtaking or pulling onto motorways/dual carriageways etc. It shows how 'poor' the factory settings are in the name of 'reliability' to protect the manufacturers 'image'

As a pro musician I depend on my car utterly. Like all my previous Audis, this A4 is surprisingly economical, allows me to cram an unreasonable amount of gear into it, and has proved to be total reliable over the 55000 miles I have so far covered in it. I would certainly have another one. M

FOR Car is V6 6-speed quattro and ideal for rural use. Engine and mechanicals excellent and will probably outlive me. Bodywork very good and minor rust problems on ns rear wheel arch and tailgate easily rectified. Diesel consumption is about 37mpg average ; on longer trips >40mpg. Tyres last about 20000 miles Very comfortable and plenty of room ; radio & CD player very good Excellent driving experience AGAINST Some plastic internal trim fittings poor quality and easily broken ; poor dealer response re this problem. Parts expensive ; dealer costs very high and uneccessary items advised (ie replace rear light cluster completely >£120 to solve internal moisture problem !) Garage/dealer required to change light bulbs !

Excellent Car would have changed a couple of years ago but I would have bought the same Model, so why change and pay the extra for basically the same car

Reliable and comfortable particularly on long journeys

I have had this car for five years and it now has nearly 200 000 miles on the clock. Starts reliably since I replaced the starter motor but clatters furiously when idling. The drive is best described as sedate having to much mass for what is left of the engine power. There is no quick acceleration but,so far, it has always got me to my destination. The seats are not comfortable for long journeys having been designed by the same people who made Soviet tanks. Twenty pounds of petrol does approximately 100 miles of local driving on bad roads. It has a huge bootspace.

looking above doesn't include 'feel-good' factor. I just LOVE this car (A3 too small - A5 too big & less attractive), so I'll be keeping it. We use it sparingly so every trip is enjoyable - spend 3mths/annum in France - perfect for the sunnier clime. Tis the v6 and whilst sublime engine to sit behind it is neither fast nor frugal - 40mpg JUST about available on steady run, with max anticipation,etc...

Comfortable, uses far more oil than expected. Gear box not that smooth compared with other Audis we have had.

I was able to purchase this Audi 80 TDI when my husband died, 12 1/2 years ago. It is the most reliable, dependable, comfortable car I have ever had. It saw me through the last 8 years of my working life (100+miles a week). It had 35,000 miles on the clock when I bought it as an approved Audi used car from an Audi dealer and it now has 165,500 miles on the clock. I have had it fully serviced regularly and it has never let me down badly or overly expensively. I am only concerned now about it's 'not very green' performance. It is in good running order and I now put about 3-4000 miles a year on it compared to the 12-13,000 miles a year when I was working. It is great for motorway driving which I do 4-5 times a year in retirement when I go up north to visit friends and family. I am now 70 years old and I have hoped it would see me out in my driving life as affording another of this quality and temperament is probably financially beyond me. It has spoiled me for a quality car.

Exemplary build quality, everything feels solid, well made, it drives well, smoothly, quietly, and still looks almost new in spite of being 15 years old! Comfortable cabin is a nice place to be, leather seats and wood trim, excellent radio/cassette. BUT... spoiled by niggling faults, mostly caused by electronic glitches, such as warning lights staying on, central locking playing up, blocked drain holes causing water to compromise electrics, dangerous sticking accelerator (!), fuel gauge not working, leaking power steering reservoir (easily fixed), the wipers stalk stopped working except for fastest speed only, and poor economy, around 25 mpg. Electronics were supposed to improve the reliability of cars, but when they go wrong they are costly to fix. My earlier Audi 80 had fewer problems. Notwithstanding, I still love this A4 and enjoy driving it! 82,000 miles on the clock, and cost £695, a bargain!

From new now 160000 miles. This has been a really good car. Comfortable reliable and economical on many long journeys including 3000 mile plus journeys to the south of france and back. The boot space is v good but I could have done with the rear seats folding down to cope with the relatively few occasions when more space was required. Great performance when required.

Chosen for reliability, economy and comfort. The reliability of the mechanicals was fine. Let down by the technology bits. Economy is great with driver only, add passengers and luggage or use round town and it not so good. Comfort is ok but spoiled by lack of space. Generally a good car, I would recommend to others but not buy another.
