Original clutch, original exhaust. Serviced always when due. Mostly motorway driving. Very comfortable. Usual bits only replaced. Nothing exceptional. Airbag sensor only thing that was ever hassle around NCT time.

My wife and I purchased a Megane mk3 in 2015, it was one year old with 25k miles on it. It had two years warranty remaining. In the first six months of owning it the turbo started whining and before we could get it to the garage it went and the car was unable to do more than 20mph. We took the car back to Arnold Clarke who got Renault to fix it on its warranty. Fast forward a year and a half with 40k miles on the car now. The turbo made the same noise and went again. (We were 250 miles away from our house it was an absolute nightmare, thank goodness we had the AA relay service). This time round we were 1 month out of the cars warranty and Renault, after about 10 phone calls back and forth and multiple requests for evidence of proper servicing, as a 'good will gesture' offered to pay half of the repair costs to fit a new turbo because they believed the issue was in part wear and tare (seriously at 40k miles?). Which cost 4k to fit, so we had to shell out 2k. Thanks a lot Renault absolute heros. The car got up to 75k miles when the turbo started making its gleeful scream again and we ended up part exchanging the piece of s*** for a Hyundai i30. Moral of the story... F*** Renault, and f*** their dodgy piece of s*** Megane. The thing obviously came of the production line with an issue and they would not accept being at fault. Will never buy from them or any affiliate or subsidiary ever again.

I had a Renault Megane 1.6 CVT Sedan for more than 4 years and this is my honest review - this is definitely a head turner car with beautiful lines and curves, the interior and the features compares with the luxury brand cars, the MPG is also very good - BUT.....this is a very big one...IT HAS ONLY 116HP, seriously Renault ? do you think 116HP is enough for a 5 seater sedan with big boot...when my friends drove it they were asking me if this was a 3 cylinder car and top of that the f***kup CVT makes the ride horrible, you will not have the confidence to change lanes or overtake any other car. I really liked the car but after using it for sometime i started hating it because of the low HP, i really think Renault hired some nut heads for designing this car who decided to put 116HP CVT.

Got it second hand year ago with 24000km. Now it has nearly 50000 and turbo failed. It became louder and there was some white/grey smoke coming out of exaust few times. Something was wrong with suspension too. Both things are sorted under warranty but hey, 50000km/4 yo and turbo gone? Might be just unlucky - I hope. Other than that it drives nicely. 1st and 2nd gears are short - they have a lot of acceleration but the rest is a bit slower, I wish they did a better job with the gearbox. I have estate and because it's a sport design the top of a boot has less space than a bottom and it could be a problem if you want to fit something bigger in it. I have a 29" XL mtb and without wheels it barely fits in there - I have to remove boot floor (spare wheel) cover to gain another 10cm of space. And another 2 things I don't like (and it's not limited to this car) is electronic handbrake and on/off engine button. Would I buy it again? Depends if something else fails in the next 12 months.

Had the car for a couple of months, was between this and a 1 series. Chose this in the end, due to being a newer car with less miles than the equivalently priced 1 series. It's been great, I've got the 1.2 petrol, which although isn't going to break any speed records, it's quick enough with easily enough punch. I don't feel it is lacking. If I'm careful I get 53 MPG, that's the actual claimed figure. Some things I would change - the infotainment screen, it would be helpful if it was more angled at the driver, to stop reflections. I would also improve the sensor for the auto wipers - it likes to wait until the whole screen is completely covered in water, and then it will clear it. I would also say that larger glove box would be nice, but really, these are just small things, of which I've gotten used to now.

Buying a used Renault in 2007, I did not expect it to last over 120,000 miles (and still clocking). I had three issues in 11 years, a corroded cable preventing the car to start, aircon (I never fixed it given it is a convertible) and some issue with the steering, fixed in Poland. Additionally, a gaiter (probably a Kwik fit lie), 3 wheel bearings, disk brakes, one puncture (teenagers placing a nail under the wheel). Diesel consumption is little, I achieved 70mpg once to drive to France (helped by radars and stupidly low speed limits). I never had any issue with the roof. That car crossed Europe several times, Poland, Switzerland, Czech republic, Brittany, once achieving 2000 miles in 2 days.

The renault cars of the past decade were heavily criticised. Their problems are often small electronic problems, on the plus side they are very cheap (used) and they don't have big problem contrary to German cars (e.g. BMW 530d) such as engine, gear box etc. Regarding my car, having bought it used in 2007 I had to change the battery (obvious), Air Con died quickly ( I did not fix it, it is a convertible at the end of the day), light bulbs are a nightmare, three wheel bearings, disk brakes changed only once and some "gaiter" to change, plastic inside tends to crack a bit. Overall the car is fine and I expect to keep it 4 more years. French cars have excellent and economical engines.

It's a great car nothing has ever gone wrong and only cost has been regular servicing

I have been running renaults for about 12 years and have found them to be very reliable and my present 1.6 vvt Megane has served me well with few problems and I get 41 -2 mpg which is good considering the performance and I usually drive near the limit if conditions allow. The only fault is the offside rear window which has not worked for some time but is the one window which matters least for whoever is driving.

This car has done over 117000 miles and although things are starting to go wrong, it is without doubt, the best car that I have ever owned. It is a pleasure to drive, particularly with the lid off, which it is most times unless it is raining or at night, every month of the year.

I bought this vehicle second-hand 2 1/2 years ago, and I have generally been well pleased with it, although I would hope a later model would have slightly sharper performance and better economy. Front seat comfort is excellent, but leg room in the back is a little cramped. Ratios in the six-speed gearbox are well chosen, and handling is very good. This is the Tom-Tom version with all the electronic knobs and whistles, all of which are useful. I would definitely have another one.

On the whole I have been very happy with my Megane. However, when I was buying it, I was rather disappointed to find that, at the time of purchase, I had to have a built-in satnav, whether I wanted one or not. while to buy a Megane with "climate control" (which I really wanted) as opposed to just an on/off air conditioner, I had to buy a more expensive model which also had an engine which turned on and off when the car is stationary (which I didn't want). Apart from that grumble, I would like to report that my megane has been very reliable, has fast acceleration, drives economically, and is a pleasure to drive.

I love the shape of this coupe..2nd one to own. Stylish and sleek and not "girlish". Bit of a hassle getting elderly people into and out of the back but, hey ho! not prepared to buy a"pope carrier" just to make things easier for friends with artificial hips! Performance has been excellent with the only blip being a fault (on both cars) with the radio/satnav system where the speakers failed but was replaced, no charge.

Unremarkable, but reliable. 120 K in 6 years, and still performing smoothly. Lack of some features, such as cruise control a bit irritating, but for the price it's very good value

Love the handling, goes fast as is legal, most upset the diesel is now a no no.

Great car to drive, fairly comfy seats, unless a really long journey. Pretty reliable, but pretty poor electrics.

Nice smooth running car. Diesel is a nice fuel to use. The car has comfortabel seats and good viewing in all mirrors. It is comfortable to drive.

I am very pleased with the car so far...does well on fuel averaging 39 to 41 mpg. I have always had large estates for diesel economy, space and comfort but now my children are growing up I thought that I would change back to something a bit like I used to own pre children. I am amazed at having full electrics, leather interior and electric roof. The engine is easy to access for repairs and routine maintenance. There is JUST enough room for 3 people (large adults). I was amazed at how much leg room I had with being so tall...The furthest Ive driven her in one stretch is just over 45 miles and I am not in any discomfort whatsoever. The bonus to me was the amazing space in the boot ..Ive got a medium size suitcase in there together with two large pillows and two large quilts..I even managed to get an ironing board in the back of the interior....impressed. It will never be a MPV nor estate, but it makes up for in style and has relatively low running costs. No increase in my fully comprehensive insurance and it is £15.75 a month for RFL the same as my last large diesel. Cant wait for summer to get that roof down...a lot of car for such little money!!

Bought a second hand ex lease 2005 Renault Megane 2.0 turbo diesel two years ago. Before I owned this car, I knew nothing about mechanics, however, I now know how to keep a car going and learnt more about mechanics than I wanted to. As luck of the draw would have it, within a week the key card failed, costing me £220 through a Renault dealer who could only supply it after 2 weeks! A few days after the car came back, I pulled up the handbrake and the plastic pin inside the aircraft style handbrake snapped. It took me 15 minutes to release the handbrake. When I went to the scrapyard, out of 10 renaults there, there was 1 left with the handbrake in, a common problem it seems. This was only the start of the problems... The drive however is great. The engine and steering are very responsive and because of the turbo, this is a very, very quick car. One thing I will say is that if the road is a bit bumpy and you take a corner a little fast, you will feel there is a little less control, not an issue as there is plenty but something that has to be mentioned. My other, heavier cars would force the car onto the road a bit more. The amount of never ending problems that need attending to, has led me to say goodbye to the car and it will be on the scrapyard soon. If you buy one second hand which needs some fixing, get a Haynes manual, you're going to need it!
