I travel a round trip of 60 miles each day, mostly on motorway. My Astra has proved to be comfortable, reliable and economical. I chose a diesel because of the mileage I do on my daily travel to work. Much quieter and more powerful than my previous Astra which had a 1600cc petrol engine. The six speed gearbox is obviously a big help. Biggest bugbear is the cost of servicing from Vauxhall dealers but this seems to a common problem with all makes of car. All things considered, I made the right choice of car for my particular needs.

Extremely pleased all would almost certainly replace with another Vauxhall Astra.

Have owned the car for just over ten years. It has proved reliable and the only major problem was a leak in the feed to the rear window wash, which resulted in flooding of the boot and spare tyre well and heavy condensation.n The cause of the problem wasn't apparent for some tim, so driving with misted up windows was always a risk. Only other fault is with the courtesy lamp, which seems to have a wiring problem somewhere. In design terms my main criticism is the position of the rear high intensity light, which is hidden from view by the steering wheel; all other controls are in clear sight of the driver.

I like the new shape Astra. I think that it looks good and is relatively well equiped. I am about 6ft 3inches and yet the car is very comfortable. We often have two child seats on the back seat for our grand children and are able to do this with no problem. Otherwise there is plenty of room in the back for two large adults. I also like the 10 year warranty

Great car for spring and summer - love it! Draw back is in winter when there is morning frost and struggle to get car doors open as they have to drop down to enable opening.

Car is starting to show signs of age. Engine sound is very loud and rattley. This is mainly due to a lack of servicing so is probably not indicative of the cars age.

Engine is sluggish up hills

Quite a reliable and safe car but rear seating could be improved; currently back seats too low giving the impression you are sitting on the floor and have little visability.

I made a mistake with ageing in laws in buying this car as it's almost impossible for them to clamber in to the rear seats. Taking them on holiday causes a further problem with the lack of boot space. The car has proved to be very reliable and has a nice turn of speed when required to overtake but the fuel economy is poor particularly in urban running.

For its age, its a brilliant car. Always starts. Had a few problems with it but everything has been easy to fix by myself as its all accessible unlike newer cars. Shes got a bit of poke too for a 1.6

IT is getting on a bit but still starts first time. A few things are now having to be looked at but in the whole a nice reliable car with a lot of space.

My car is now 13 years old. I have owned it for 11 years. It has been serviced every year, and I have looked after it. That is why it has been so reliable all these years. My next car will be another Vauxhall Astra Estate. They are comfortable & practical all round.

I bought this car because I liked the style and features. Only downside is the size of the boot. Not as large as my previous car, which was a Ford Focus. As it is the Elite model, it has lots of extras and I have found it really reliable, easy to drive and a great medium sized family car.

Suits most of my purposes , but is a bit heavy on fuel for short trips. Microchip controlled reversing lights went wrong - and is very expensive to repair

I really like this car. It is the first of this model I have and it is far superior in most ways to the previous three Astras I have had. In general, I drive around 9000 miles a year, and to date. since I purchased the car new in 2010, I have covered 30022 miles on 3876.78 litres of normal 4* petrol with an overall mpg of 35.20 I am happy with this,as, when added to my Insurance and servicing costs I feel that I am getting good value. I have had mainly Vauxhall cars in my 41 years of car ownership and am delighted with my current one for its comfort, handling and style. There have been three recalls over its life, as far as I remember, all of which were minor and completed by the dealership generally when the car went in for its annual service.

I haven't had any other car or motorcycle for this length of time (6 years) without changing. Its been totally reliable, good runner, decent performance and handling, reasonable size boot. Only negative is the gearbox which isn't smooth to change to say the least. Otherwise, I can't think of a good reason to change it at the moment which is a bit annoying!

I Find the seats comfortable but my wife HATES them. The car runs good but I am having problems with the service warning coming on for no reason that Dealer can find.
