Our Astra Convertible is now over ten years old, has low mileage because we choose to walk or to use public transport whenever possible -- but it's been reliable (so far!) and still affords us pleasure and comfort, especially in fine weather with the roof down!

This is the fourth Vauxhall I've had since my first back in the 90s. I have had few if any problems with any of them and would recommend them to anyone. I also get superb service from my local Vauxhall dealer, particularly when it comes to servicing and MoT testing. The only reasons I scored it down on running costs is the prices of fuel, road tax and insurance, which I think are extortionate but which affect all responsible motorists.

Bought second hand, first registered Sept 2010. Lovely car, Comfortable, economic, quiet, good in every way.

I use this car mainly for local journeys, for which it is larger and more powerful than I require. I keep it because I make long drives two or three times a year. I would recommend it for its reliability and safety aspects rather than the running costs.

very pleased with the car overall and the lifetime guarantee

Does what I need it to do. Gets me from A to B without any problems. Getting on in years so has cost me a bit of money in the past year replacing bits and bobs but no major complaints. Very reliable.

the only real drawback, in my opinion, of which is an average car is the electronic handbrake

Good car. Reasonably economical getting 44-48 mpg. Due to age and mileage (200k+), wear and tear more evident, and engine components beginning to fail.

With the use of the cruise control and driving the car in the proper manner I get overall 43.8 to the gallon which I consider very good as I live in the highlands of Scotland with a lot of single track and hilly roads .i would have no hesitation in recommending the car to anyone

Very reliable. Still on the original tyres and exhaust. Battery renewed this year, later found that it was being flatened due to glove box light failing to switch off. Very good to drive. Total milage = 42,000. no major repairs so far.

The car is slightly underpowered on hills, of which wwe have a few locally. all gadgets work well - radio, A/C, CD player. it is economical to run - getting 40-45 miles per gallon - not sure whether that's around 9 miles per litre. Only drawback in winter where I live is it is not good in ice and snow - but there again, one would need a 4 x 4 to cope with the winter conditions in north Hampshire around the country lanes where I live.

Has all the comfort, ease to drive and efficiency to be expected in a car of this nature; but with certain drawbacks. The boot is too small, and not always easy to load due to high rear wall. Visibility forward compromised by heavy pillars between doors and windscreen; and by (for me) awkwardly positioned rear view mirror. Visibility to rear poor, especially to each side, making reversing sometimes a "hit and miss" experience. Gears sometimes difficult to engage.

Car good in most respects but very poor in fuel efficiency

General all round good car, seats are quite low for getting in to drive, enough space and boot space for a small family,so far very reliable

Best tailgate and boot design I've had (band and keyboard gear to move regularly), large and squared off so little space unusable. 50 to the Gallon on longer journeys, 43 on daily commute where 12 miles takes 30 mins. Has to work hard on overtakes, but no service costs other than routine so far and it's 6 years old. I've had no issue with the DPF regeneration problem that web fora talk about. Very pleased, but wouldn't touch main dealer servicing anywhere in the Stafford area!

Generally a nice car but definitely not a Tardis. Externally a big vehicle, internally lots of space lost. I am led to believe the space is used for safety features such as air bags. 6 speed gearbox and lots of eco gadgets, but, I got more mpg in my Vectra 2 litre diesel. Maybe when the engine gets a little looser it may improve... Boot lid when lifted in the rain performs like a bucket and dumps a load of water on you when you drop the tailgate.

I had this at 3 years old, following theft/vandalism on my Astra Estate. I was concerned that it would not be large enough as at the time we carried large loads and people. In fact, with careful packing it was brilliant. The wide inside space in the boot helps a lot. It took a while to get used to the 5th gear, and we had to be careful opening the large doors. The worst thing about it is the quality of the plastic inside fittings, which regularly drop off. We were always keen on Astra models and this one is good. Of course it is now old-fashioned and does not even have power steering, but this is the only thing I would wish for. Compared to modern models, there is not a lot under the bonnet, but the simplicity means there are no huge repair bills (so far!) Will be looking at the modern Astras soon.
