A good car with lots of space, not to fast but easy on the motorway, which is why I bought it.

This is my second Vectra. Both have been very reliable cars. I do approx. 18,000 miles a year and would highly recommend the Vectra.

I have the SRi model (150ps with Sat Nav), which is fairly comfy and nice to drive when everything is working OK. However, poor design and manufacture have resulted in a long list of expensive repairs, which appear to be very common to Vectra owners (judging by posts of the Vec-C owners forum): Altenator, Boost Sensor, DMF & Clutch, EGR, Inlet Manifold & Swirl-Pot Actuator, Suspension Coils, Wiper Motor. A total of over £2000 - more than any other car I've ever owned. There are also several other cheaper parts/fittings that I've replaced/repaired myself (e.g. boot switch, fan thermal resistor unit). I would not buy another one of these cars.

I bought this car as a stop gap replacement for my previous larger estate which had expired. My intention was to replace it after a year but change in financial circumstances means I will have to keep it for longer. I find the ride a bit firm but road holding good. One fuel pump failure fixed under warranty has been the only major problem but starting to have a few minor niggles with electrical bits eg broken fog light, rear door sticking and random alarm faults. Handy for transporting equipment ( 3 + golf gear on various trips) and rubbish to the local tip. 32mpg not the cheapest.

Having had the vehicle from new it has proved very reliable transport with tremendous carrying capacity. Running costs would be low (over 40 mpg) apart from the ridiculously high annual road tax of £250 imposed on the vehicle by the government due to an estimated carbon dioxide emission of 190 mg/kilometre which cannot be correct.

Has 87,000 plus miles on the clock but performs well and suits my lifestyle and age. Would like a new car but it cannot happen.

I want a basic car which will get me from A to B, in reasonable comfort especially for long journeys, is enjoyable to drive and economical to run. I would prefer a 1600cc engine as largest, but the 1800cc has more than enough power. I log all my petrol and am returning 40 mpg over the 10+ years I have had the car, currently predominately short journeys. I prefer rear wheel drive (control the back with the throttle and the front with the steering wheel), but this car handles very well, has ample performance, has comfortable adjustable seats, good brakes (has ABS which I don't really need, have never used - I have rally driving skills) and the heating and demisting is fair, although the inside of the car easily mists up with 2 or more people in the car. The lights are good and the finger tip controls around the steering wheel are sensibly laid out. I don't need lots of 'gadgets' in a car, just a radio and CD player, for music, have no sat nav, preferring to read maps. The 'boot' capacity is good and I am able to put a mountain bike inside after removing the front wheel. Vauxhall need to improve their electronics, my major maintenance costs have been, sorting out a CPU problem (a bad earthing connection)and the ABS electronics, which cost me over £300 to fix, using used ABS parts. Also the lambda sensors (pollution control) had to be replaced and were expensive. Otherwise my running costs have been very low, mainly on the above and replacement tyres and exhaust. It does its job well, and is economical to run. I am retired and my annual mileage is low (about 2k miles), but the road tax is £225 which is an idiotic rip off. I compare this with my neighbour who has a small diesel car which is used every day and does 15k+ miles per year with road tax of £20/£30. Barmy.

I have had my Vectra since 2005 and have always owned Vauxhall Cars. This one has been very reliable and has given me very little trouble. I had to replace the battery once. It drives well and is very comfortable. It also has a very generous boot. I had a problem with the cam belt snapping unexpectedly. This might have written off the car, except that I found a mechanic who was prepared to get it back on the road. Cam belts on this model and all Vauxhalls of this period need to be checked at annual service. It is very important that they are replaced at regular intervals as one incident can totally damage the engine. I hope that newer models will revert to using a timing chain rather than a cam belt to drive the engine. It is the only fault with the model. All Vauxhall cars have a tendency to let in water as they get older and the seals begin to go on the doors and boot. This one also lets in a bit of water, but it is nearly 12 years old.

This car has been a very good buy. Purchased at Auction 7 yrs ago for £1400, the car has been worth every penny. One drawback....only 22 miles per gallon of fuel, which these days is very expensive. My model is a CDI, all electric, all leather, etc. A/C as well. All the bells & whistles in other words.

I have been very pleased with my 08 vectra estate. Its a 1 .9 sri diesel. After 2 years of ownership it has performed well pulling easily up thesteep hills around here. Good firm cornering, comfortable ride. Economical on A roads, not so good around lanes and short journeys. Fantastically roomy especialy with rear seats down. Only problem is the gap behind front seats when rear ones down as the dogs can fall down it so we have made a little removable table like gadget to fill the space when required. This carhas a lower then average rear window which improves visibility immensly when reversing in awkward country lanes.

Large and roomy interior compared to the previous Vectra. The Electronic Computer Unit has had to be replaced, as has the clutch assembly and a new Dual Mass Flywheel, Alternator and drive belt/tensioner. All of these have been costly repairs. The headlight bulbs and tail/brake light bulbs fail fairly often but the computer display alerts me when this happens and I replace them fairly easily. I have had this car from new in 2002 but am considering changing it for a medium sized newer car during the next 12 months.

Bought second hand, 5 months ago for £2,800, in pristine condition from a dealer. Good under rated car. Superior to the Mondeo. Solid, well built, Has returned 28.6 MPG over 3,860 miles Has built in sat nav, plus many other extras. I am well satisfied with it.

I have owned my Vectra for almost 4 years. It had 132,000 on the clock and I have added almost 60,000. I have had a rear coil spring fail and the ECR unit needed to be replaced. It uses no oil between services. A great car, very reliable and good to drive long distances in.

Vectra c sri 2.2 petrol had for nearly 7 years. Starts every day, no breakdowns. Great performance. loads of room and great workhorse. Fully loaded with people, luggage, and dogs and no drop in performance or braking. 6 Speed gearbox with loads of torque, 60 mph in 2nd gear and 4 more still to go will cruise in 6th at low speeds. 40mpg + even when driven hard Having owned cavaliers and the early vectra's, this has to be the best vauxhall ever. Seats down can fit 6 feet x just over 3feet wide in the boot better space than the newer vauxhall's No need to buy a new car when you can have this much fun and use from an 7 year old car

This expensive running car I bought without ESP ASR. I was hopefull that cars are sold with this as basic needs as snow is everywhere and it will help prevent crash or kill someone on street.! Please make sure that you have on new car ASR ESP ABS POWERSTEERING-my parents bought without and also aircondition!!!!This car is rubbish from new as vibration coming from Engine to powersteering wheel!! You will see on long journeys that this not properly balanced engine making you tired from vibrations of whole body!!!!!

The Vectra 150BHP is the perfect format for a car to meet all the requirements of my lifestyle: 1. Plush saloon for comfortable long distance driving with four passengers and their luggage. 2. Performance to deal with all terrain and all loads. 3. Very economical for a high performance car. 4. A serious load carrier for furniture and any other large objects. However, all the good things I have listed have been compromised by the poor reliability and very expensive engine failures. I am therefore unlikely to buy another GM car in the near future.

My Vectra has been generally reliable. After six years, one electric window switch has failed and the in-car engine thermostat readout is erratic. The garage cannot find the cause at present. Costs of running have been good and it is reasonably spacious and comfortable for both long and short journeys. I want a car to get me from A to B when I need it. I'm not looking for a status symbol or fashionable car.

It was bought second hand as a replacement for a Ford Mondeo 1.8 Petrol that I had driven for the last 12 years. This had been a very good car and was only starting to develop electrical faults in the last 2 years. Eg. electric windows not working, lights failing etc. I bought the vauxhall from a dealer with a six month guarantee. This was an ex rental car from Avis and had been well maintained, 50 k mileage, and was cheaper than an equivalent aged Ford Mondeo. It provided a similar level of comfort and space together with the benefit of cruise control for motorway driving. As we have family in Scotland and London we use it to commute a number of times per year. motorway fuel consumption is excellent, Liverpool to London and back on a full tank of fuel, door to door in relative comfort and much cheaper than by train. Likewise travelling to the highlands, 425 miles each way on restricted roads (60 mph) on a tank each way with fuel to spare for local travel. Very pleased so far. only complaint too many warning lights that activate at the slightest thing, usually re-set within minutes.
