A great drivers car and one of the best I've owned. Handling, ride and performance is excellent. It's getting old now but still starts every time and has been completely reliable. Despite the VW emissions problem I'd be happy to buy another Golf, although I might go for a petrol engine next time.

Great car - solid construction and is fun to drive. This sport version has all the power I need, very quiet, steering is precise, road holding very good and feedback from road is excellent. The extras are well thought out (e.g. attachments and hooks in boot interior lighting). I even love the fact that, if you forget, you can close the electric windows without having to turn the ignition back on. Sadly, it has recently had a few expensive issues like bearing on water pump needing to be replaced and disks seizing. (The latter were probably caused by my having to park on grass for a long period). So, maybe a bit unlucky?

Since going automatic cannot think why i did not change earlier, the transmission on our Gold is superb, it is a joy to drive and is particularly good in towns where stop--start is the norm, it is also excellent on hill starts.

I have had along string of VWs starting with a Polo, then a Polo GT, a Passat saloon and two Passat estates but this Golf is simply the best. Its comfortable and roomy and the economy at 60mpg is remarkable. It's a GT so handling and speed when required are exceptional. The braking system is powerful and safe even on the rare occasions I have had to use it in near emergency conditions. I opted for a few extras, a DAB radio, heated seats, a sunroof and the winter pack for example and these enhance the all-round attraction and enjoyment of driving the vehicle. I also have front and rear parking sensors and these I find to be very worthwhile. Servicing costs are reasonable and even the recent emission control software scandal didn't dampen my enthusiasm. VW recalled the car recently to do the software update and I have noticed no difference in performance. I've owned this car from new in 2010 and I have no intention of changing it. If I had to change it then I would buy another Golf with the same specification.

A solid feel to the car . Feel safe and secure when transporting the family around. Not the most inspiring drive but you know what to expect and can tailor your driving accordingly. Everything will fit in the boot, and with the back seats down I've managed to move the contents of a flat over the course of a couple of days. (Not including the sofa though) Overall a reliable car as long as its maintained reasonably, and cabin quality is good for an older car.

I tend to buy second-hand vehicles but look after them well and keep them until either they become unreliable or too expensive to maintain. My first vehicle (when I graduated from motorbikes) was a series 3 Landrover, which I kept for 20 years and sold for £800. Since then I have had three Golfs, all of which ran perfectly until they became too expensive to get through the MOT. Each subsequent model seems to suffer more problems due to increased sophistication. The vehicles are generally very reliable but occasional warnings are triggered because a sensor has malfunctioned (cold-start, oil pressure, lambda probe) so that technology actually causes more problems than it solves. My Landrover, though noisy, expensive to run and slow, could always be fixed at the roadside with basic tools and always got us to our destination. I love my current Golf. I rarely have to fill it up (Durham and back, 300 miles round trip plus a weeks driving around, on three-quarters of a tank), will cruise all day at 70mph, plenty of room, especially with the seats down at the back, and starts first time every time even on the coldest mornings. One small niggle, very heavy rain results in wet carpets and I can't find a way to stop it, despite copious application of silicone to all seals.

So far, vey pleased on all fronts. Feels safe and solid and handles well. I have back problems and appreciate ease of entry and lumbar support.

Comfortable, reliable car. Has the power to overtake smartly.

I find the sight lines in this car quite poor at times. The thickness of the door jams, combined with the head rests, often make it difficult to see when pulling out. I like to have all round good vision and this car sadly has several blind spots.

Great at as the drive is similar to a vw Touran Fuel was great at I only used a 1/4 tank from Manchester to Maidstone . No issues to date. Sluggish in the first gear but fine when the turbo kicks in. Great looking car but nota solid as the Touran . Will wait and see the outcome as the Touran did not give any hassles from 40k to 90k.

Really pleased with my car. I had a bad experience with another dealer and my faith has now been restored. It's a lovely car to drive and is pretty cheap go run.

This is a lively car and feels like it if a groen ups car rather than the beetles quirky teenager feel ! But it was s time for change and what better than a golf convertible to replace it . Only had test drives do far but it feels lovely to drive and of course the fully self opening and closing ( locking) roof will be a bonus as one of us had s dodgy wrist which made closing our 06 beetles roof a bit difficult . Looking forward to driving the golf !!!!

It's too over price for people who on a budget. It's not worth the price for used car especially if it's your 1st you probably wouldn't want it after 1 year it's not worth it it's a nice car but not for the money

Not sure if I have been unlucky, having always driven Vauxhalls I thought I would step up a notch to a VW Golf. . . silly me, should have stuck with another Vauxhall. At 3 yrs the door lock failed, locking driver in an open car, also door swung open whilst driving along around a corner. At 3.5 yrs old the engine chain stretched due to stud coming loose from the chain cover. Took 5 weeks to repair and cost nearly £2k. At 4 yrs all windows randomly opened themselves several times (not activated by key fob) resulting in a very wet car. At 5 yrs differential whistle/whine sound which on long journeys is unbearable. About to get rid before this fails and I will probably get a Vauxhall. When the Golf is going it drives very well, is comfortable and quiet car. But I can't afford to keep repairing the car.
