I have had my car for 3 years,i bought in new, after my son had passed away it was my first car of my own as always shared with members of the family. I love the fact that i feel safe and and secure and confident in driving it. Its not bad on fuel consumption and the tax is low. A very good choice for me

Wish I had not bought a car with such a small engine, it is 3 cylinder and lumpy on tick over also in bad weather the APS has a mind of its own. Awfull on icey untreated roads. Otherwise, inexpensive to run, good on petrol and more than suitable for a lady of more mature years.

Great fuel consumption over a variety of driving conditions. Very reliable with regular servicing. Servicing costs average with franchise. Brakes can be a problem; driving on the gears means that the brakes need more regular attendance than service intervals. Changing headlamp bulbs needs a garage visit. Overall a very good small car for commuting and comfortable enough for long journeys.

The Polo is a very reliable and comfortable car. It has more technical details than can cope with - unless regular consulting the manual

Could be quieter, and the gear change if nothing like as good as the petrol version. The little knob for the wing mirror change feels flimsy and is difficult to use, but otherwise a delight to drive. Acceleration is better than you would expect, and consistent and predictable. Steering is very predictable and easy. Brakes smooth and very efficient. seating is very variable, so anyone can get comfortable.

I am generally very happy with the car but do not like the fact that the stirring is locked if the engin is not running. This is unsafe in conditions that you may need to steer the car when the engin will not start. The battery also gave up suddenly when parked after a 200 mile journey But over all I am very happy with the car

never had a better car, economical on fuel, running costs and servicing. Also, lower road tax and insurance costs. Very reliable car, not a family car but ideal for 2 people and luggage.

In the five years I have had my VW polo it has done 80,000 miles and always been reliable. Its very fuel efficient and has been a pleasure to own. However as I am now approaching my mid 60s I dont find it sufficiently comfortable for a long journey - I get very stiff and would be looking for a bigger more comfortable model for my next car even though I would have to pay more road tax.

I love my car - so far it hasn't let me down badly. Only once when it needed a new battery. It is great at transporting people and things. It is easy to manover and I like it. I don't really want to change it but it is getting old and less efficient. That is sad.

I am the third owner of my VW Polo which I bought 21 months ago. It has so far had one MOT and one visual service check since my purchase, and was given a clean bill of health despite being over 10 years old. For a fairly old car its acceleration is good, and fuel consumption is around 40 mpg (combined cycle, but mostly urban running). Many roads in my area have surfaces that leave quite a bit to be desired, but I cannot complain about the comfort, and for a day to day runabout the Polo meets all my needs.

My Polo is a good reliable little car, suitable for a retired couple.

The 1997 mark 3 Polo is an old-school piece of kit, but a surprisingly versatile one. It's small enough to be nippy around town and easy to park on crowded streets, while also having enough dynamism to easily take to long motorway trips or steep back-country roads. The fuel efficiency is good enough to do a London - Lake District journey without needing to stop; and the seats are comfortable enough, and the sound-system good enough (even in the stock CL model) to make a trip like that without wanting to stop. The boot space is good for both shopping and camping-gear, and the three-door model allows things like bikes to be fitted into the rear-seat foot space. From my point of view, it's close to perfect for a small car: compact but also capable and comfortable.

Lovely car, just right for me, a little small from what I am used to, a 7 seater! but good on fuel, easy to park, and nippy. My daughters like it because it is bright red. Wash it every weekend!

The Polo is an excellent vehicle. The fuel efficiency/mileage is brilliant. The ride is comfortable. There is reasonable luggage space (rear seats fold) The only fault I can find with the car is a tendency for the brakes to bind a little on start up, after standing overnight in cold weather (even though kept in a garage). Once the engine is running - this problem disappears. I would have no hesitation in purchasing another vehicle of this type - and I am assured that the manufacturer has now fully resolved the brake issue. I will look to purchase another VW Polo in 2014.
