First shape Focus and in my opinion the best. Later models are not as practical as far as space is concerned. I do not like the trend of lower roofs and pinched in backs as valuable space is lost. If this original model was built again now I would certainly buy one.

Car performs considerably WELL and is economical to run approx 55 mpg and only £30 RFL. Very good size and a large boot.Seats not particularly comfy on long journey,s.Overall a good car but rather bland.

Plenty of space for luggage (and flat pack furniture!) for me and my family. Running costs are very low, £30 Road tax and I get around 50-60mpg. It's not a high performance vehicle but handles well and doesn't struggle. Very reliable.

The car is plenty big enough both for storage and passengers. Controls easily accessible. Good vision for driver & passengers. Seating very comfortable. Fair performance and fuel consumption not too bad. Thinking about the benefits and negatives, I have convinced myself to keep the car I have got, or just maybe, upgrade to a newer model of Focus.

Satisfied with build. Not great on fuel. Only doing 35 miles to the gallon at present and this will drop over the winter. Had a problem with the bonnet catch - was unable to open the bonnet due to a part breaking.Cost £120 to get it fixed. Would have been much more expensive if taken to a Ford dealer. This is a know problem and is due to a bad design, think that Ford should have recalled the models affected and put this right free of charge. Next car will probably be one that has better fuel economy.

This is the second Ford Focus I have had. A very reliable mid rage car with very good fuel consumption for a petrol engine. Plenty of room inside for five people. It is a bit noisy on some main roads/motorways. The windows are large with good visibility all round and the heated front windscreen a very good asset on cold frosty mornings. I have noticed however that the latest Ford Focus has a much smaller rear window so I am not sure if I will be getting one when I renew my car next year.

50mpg, aircon, remote locking, heated windscreen, all on the best handling car I have ever owned. Over 215,000 miles on my mk1 1999 LX & it's still going. When something wears out or breaks the parts cost is insanely cheap compared to VW, etc. There is a reason this car was the best seller for 6 of it's 7 years on sale. The germans even voted it better than the Golf one year! Seats could be better, but I'm told on the Zetec, Ghia & titanium, they are. I shall be buying another Focus, for sure.

This is the second Ford Focus I have owned. Whilst it's expensive to run in terms of fuel consumption, I have found it to be a reliable, reasonably comfortable and very practical vehicle. The engine size enables a high standard of performance. Road holding is very good. My next car will not be a Ford Focus but that's simply because I can manage very well with a smaller car - but I'll miss it!

This is my second Focus - had the first one for years and never let me down so intend to do the same again. Comfortable ride, decent space for passengers and loads of room to carry stuff in boot / back with seats down.

Have had it since 2003 not quite new when bought. I love it to bits. It always starts even when left in freezing conditions for 3 weeks. It carries me across the country without problems. As soon as I am in a position to change it I will get another Focus

The Mk1 Focus set the benchmark for all modern small/medium hatchbacks in the UK when it was launched. Mine is a 1.6 Zetec and it has superb handling, performs well and is quite practical. The brakes are responsive and the ride is very good. In my opinion it is a very good car.

I have always been satisfied with Ford cars and on the whole have found them reliable and easy to "operate". I would say that the petrol models of the age I'm driving are not particularly economical against the more modern generation of car. I will be looking at better fuel consumption when swapping to my next purchase over the coming year or so.

Fuel economy somewhat disappointing and well below manufacturer's calculations. Pleasant to drive. Comfortable on long journeys. Parking easy. Purchased second hand two months ago so I am still forming my opinion on certain matters, however in general pleased with my buy.

Right balance of space and practical day to day living for my family. Comfortable and easy to drive. Will take 5 adults if required (though less roomy for long journey). Enough boot space for luggage on holiday. Annual service has provided no shocks - car has been always reliable. The one drawback is petrol consumption. On a longer run consumption is reasonable - but on day to day urban driving with short journeys the running costs rise. I would now choose the ecotech (fuel saving) engine.

I use my car asa a taxi and I find it very reliable and comfortable. Customers always comment on how nice it is. The only downside is the boot space though.

Having owned a previous Ford Focus Estate(2002) we which was comfortable, reasonably roomy, reasonably fuel efficient and reliable we decided to upgrade to a 2009 model. Despite being larger it seems to have less room, it is less comfortable (we feel every slight bump in the road and is far less fuel efficient. This has been a real disappointment to us and so we are presently thinking of changing to a different make of car. On the plus side however the car has been very reliable and the service from our local Ford garages has been good.

The car is easy to drive with sure cornering and good road holding. Gears are smooth to change and not too loose nor clunky. The ecoboost engine is amazing with the pull of 1.6 l engine and even better torque for the size of car. In snow the car handles well and the heated windscreen is a definite bonus. In rain the wind screen wipers could be improved to give better vision. Inside the car is spacious fitting 5 adults with comfort and loads of boot space. Overall the car is the best of the best in its category and price range.

Excellent on diesel and performance. It has all the facilities that modern day cars have. Very reliable car, that's why I haven't changed it since new in2003.

Ford tend to put 2 l diesels into Mondeo cars. I wanted a compact yet powerful car to tow my caravan. When I managed to track down a 2l diesel in the Focus it turned out to be ideal. It took 2 months searching to find one - I was on the verge of getting a 1.6 which may have managed to tow. The 2l is brilliant. No worrying moments when overtaking a French lorry [or any other slow lorry] It does about 45 mpg which is fantastic when you think back a few years when an automatic Volvo [petrol] did 18 mpg!

Excellant, economical runner on long journeys. Smokes a bit on start up on cold mornings. Has done 180,000 miles so I guess I should expect a few reliability paroblems.
