Reliable, comfortable and spacious car. Reasonable maintainance costs. Consumption could be better

Bought this as second owner and have been very pleased with daily running to work and longer motorway driving at weekends.Able to put back seats down for extra space. Would buy again

My car is essential as I have a big dog and three cats and to get them to the vet I would have to walk 1/4 mile to a bus stop and the dog would leap all over the other passengers (rescue dog) very friendly but over the top with his greetings. Carrying shopping from the bus home is also out of the question as I have problems with my knees and my car has never let me down even though I only did 499 miles between the yearly tests last year.

If you want a basic family car with no unnecessary frills, or fancy gadgets that will inevitably go wrong, look no further than the Focus Style. I've had no faults in five years (now I'm tempting fate!), so it has to be excellent value for money.

While the 1.6 diesel is nothing special it is very economical and the performance adequate. The car handles well, has enough room for most purposes and is reasonably well equipped.

Has served us well, but with car over nine years old and 107000 miles on the clock it is showing it's age. Various rattles can be heard on any road service except the the smoothest (rare in this area). Starting to use a little more oil; electronics sometimes detect non-existent problems, but despite the warnings on the little screen (they come and go) the car continues to preform well. Average mpg around 39. My one real hate is the electronic hand brake.

I am very happy with the car and am planning to buy a newer model next year.

Was given this as a present but not what I would have chosen Basically its pretty boring but drives well and has so far been very reliable. The fuel consumption could be better.

Good points: ultra-reliable, well equipped, reasonable performance, looks smart. Bad points: small boot, seems a bit thirsty for a 1600, steering on the heavy side, can't see audio display in bright conditions, had leaky tailgate (now fixed). Summary: I'd buy another one, all things considered.

Despite being one of the most popular cars, I've had nothing but trouble with my Focus. Almost all the electrics have been faulty, had two major steering problems and recently the locks are giving me problems. It's not comfortable to drive as the steering wheel is really thick (probably okay if you are a large man but I'm not) and it's not a particularly comfortable ride. Definitely wouldn't recommend this model.

generally my car is a good, comfortable car. performance is adequate and there is plenty of room for the driver and passengers with sufficient boot space. So far the car has been reliable for the 25,000 miles I have done. the fuel consumption is on the higher side than I would have hoped, doing only 32 - 35pmg in town. this increases to 40+ on motorways. heating and ventilating is reasonable but the inside of the car does steam up a little too often. the rear wiper has only an intermittant sweep and I think all modern cars should have a continuous action. not easy to replace bulbs.

This is the best Focus I have owned. An Ecoboost engine provides enough power at good fuel rates and low Road Tax. The add ons with auto parking, voice control etc are excellent. It is a comfortable and reliable vehicle.

Ford hit the nail on the head with the first generation (and 2nd gen) of Focus models - it's basically a rally car - so handles really well - add a big boot and you have a superb family car - we have the Ghia version with all the bells and whistles (of that time) (air con, sunroof, elec most things - don't like the heater front window) Can't fault it really - yeah body work is starting to rust in places and the wife hates the fact it is white! - otherwise a superb all round car and giving us around 50mpg happy days - would probably look at a newer model but IMHO I prefer the original looking ones - ho hum progress!!

Bought second hand as a high mileage ex police car which had typically been very well maintained. Now on 130,000 miles. We bought this car with a view to being capable of carrying furniture for my wife's upholstery work and also suitable for regular runs of 360 plus miles to visit family. This car has proved very suitable for our needs although it is thirstier than we would like.

Really nice reliable car, spacious and practical. Not particularly comfortable, the seats are hard and I never seem to be able to get to the perfect driving position so wouldn't recommend for someone who does lots of long distance journeys. Good petrol consumption though and the engine just seems to keep going no matter what. Watch out for rust and deal with it immediately.
