I have been purchasing Ford vehicles for almost as long as I have been driving (since 1953). While the earlier models were renowned bad starters, often requiring the use of the starting handle and/or pouring petrol down into the choke, in general they were good work horses. As the years passed Ford's reliability, technology, innervation and driving comfort has improved. I find my 2001 Ford Focus Diesel Estate is reliable, cost effective and comfortable, and everything inside still functions perfectly. I doubt that I will exchange my Ford for a new model until it becomes expensive and unreliable, at which time I will send it to that place in the sky where all good cars go when they are exhausted and tired! Basically, I would not purchase a new vehicle while my old, but reliable car, is providing me with such good service.

Expensive to run, for short journeys Very comfortable Reliable Splendid family car - huge boot. Not suitable for me on my own now.

My mileage is low at about 4000 miles per year consisting primarily of short journeys. As the engine is 2.0 litre with automatic transmission the fuel consumption is poor at about 22 mpg. However the car has been reliable and annual servicing is reasonably priced so the overall running cost is not too bad.

I love my car even though I only use it for shopping and taking the pets to the vets but there is no bus service close enough to my house for me to use public transport so it is either keep the car or stay at home 24/7. Basingstoke public transport sucks!!!

Bought my 2003 Ford Focus 1.4 CL 5DR about 1 year ago to use to and from work. Very reliable with no mechanical problems, starts 1st time every time. Being a 1.4 it isn't particularly fast but it does get me where I need to go. Good level of comfort and not uncomfortable even on a longer journey. Reasnably cheap to run due to lower engine size and car tax is marginally cheaper than some cars. All in all I would give it 8/10

We bought the Ford Focus in anticipation of being a family car. Having now used it for a year with a child I can safely say it is a reasonable vehicle for it. The one we bought didn't have Isofix however we have had it added in since. Also the pram we have is quite big and so takes up a good space in the boot however we have also bought roof bars from Ford which look smart and assist with having roof box for extra space. The actual cockpit and rear seat area is fairly spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately it does seem to drink fuel quite quickly but it has good power most of the time. I can also safely say that we've had no major mechanical problems and the car has been fairly reliable.

Generally o.k apart from ongoing issues with handbrake but not so good that I'd have another

One of the best cars I have owned, electrifying performance, at a price. However can be driven economically as well 32mpg is possible, but why would you buy one to drive like your nana. Only problem I have had was a smell from the windscreen washer bottle, Ford could not sort the problem and claim they are unaware of it. Fixed it by pouring some Milton into it. Comfortable on long journeys, has all the usual creature comforts. Nice Sony DAB sound system. Fantastic feature is Ford electric front screen, clears even an inch of snow in a minute, and never fogs up brilliant. Why don't all cars have them? Thumbs upto Ford on that one. Can't buy another one as the new model is a totally different car, shame.

Generally very satisfied with car. Ex-Motability when bought at 3 years old, so low mileage (17K). For normal use, nice to drive, comfortable and useful space. Slightly disappointed with fuel consumption, Auto driven mostly on rural roads and journeys not too short, yet only manages ~ 36 mpg.

I bought this car three years ago with only 33,000 miles on the clock. It is worth the rating marks I have given above and overall is a pleasure to drive.

I brought this car second hand as a working vehicle and also for transporting my dog. It is a practical car and I also use it to tow a small touring caravan, its absolutely ideal for this and I'm delighted with this car. Any repairs needed are easy to do and parts are readily available at a reasonable cost. The cabin is comfortable and the equipment is basic but easy to use.

The 1.8 TDCi ford focus is a practical car, reliable, and frugal - giving me around 57 to 61mpg. Whilst the ride is adequate, it could not be considered as quiet, nor smooth; there is significant road and wind noise, especially at higher speeds. The biggest down side on this model - which appears to relate just to the 1.8 diesel engine, is the very pronounced turbo lag followed by power surge; this can be dangerous a in busy traffic at roundabouts and junctions. Whilst you get use to this problem, you can never quite be sure that the car will accelerate into close moving traffic when you need it to. Overall a very sound car, but not without the odd niggle.

Bought new at a great discount. Great part exchange for my previous model.Extra 'goodies' including - paint and upholstery protection, 0% APR over 3 years, 3 years free servicing and £750.00 cash back. Would I do it again if the same or a similar deal was available? You bet! Additionally. The car has never missed a beat and I comfortably beat the stated average mpg by over 3.5 mpg.

Purchased second-hand from 4 year old with 41000 miles on the clock. To date, the clock now reads ~130000 miles. Regularly serviced at the same time as the MOT by professional garage. Very comfortable for faster motorway trips, countryside ambling, and around town. Reasonably economical regarding mpg; very economical regarding standard necessary refits (tyres/exhaust). Never experienced a major breakdown. Over the period of ownership, replaced several tyres, a few bulbs, rear exhaust box (three times), alternator (once), and timing belt after 100000 miles. Needed battery replacement this summer - turned out it was the original Ford battery - 14 years old! When the inevitable happens, it will be sad to see it go as it has been a completely reliable experience and a constant pleasure to drive for both myself and my wife. Next car will also be a Ford - probably a Fiesta this time.

Great value for money car. Reliable, well built, smooth and comfortable. Serviceables are low cost. Benefits fromm 100k timing belt and lifetime full filter etc. Only negative is fuel consumption could be better for a 1.6

Many useful extras such as heated front screen which clears frost quickly. Tyres are high profile so comfortable on rough roads. Acceleration is good providing revs are over 3000. Economy at 41 mpg is acceptable for this weight and type of car.I value the radio so having a digital and FM combination is good.Boot is small compared to some models in this class but suits me.Yearly service cost is competitive.A car I can recommend.

I am currently thinking about changing my car to a newer version as mine is 10 years old and every year I find myself spending more on it. Aside from those additional costs I'm very happy with my car. It is comfortable and easy to drive. Features include air con, heated seats, leather seats and steering wheel, heated wind screens and electric windows. In my opinion Fords have always been reliable for me and my family. Previous to my focus I had a Ka which was equally as easy to run.

180000+ miles so well and truly earned its keep! A few (common according to internet forums) problems now with leaking in badly in heavy rain ( think this may be pollen filter related). Also has a tendency to flip into dead slow limp home mode on acceleration and this has been attributed to either the throttle sensor or a dodgy turbo. Both common problems again apparently! Only cost me £1000 though and £350 at last mot so suppose it's not too bad!

This car is comfortable to drive and has good vision, but is not very economical to run. The car is not very quiet while driving and the exhaust system connection points continually make noises when driving over bumps. The carpet is prone to tearing easily, especially in the rear when stiletto high-heels are worn by passengers.
