My third X type and sadly the last. Superseded by the excellent XF but £10k more. The X Type is great value for money. You cant complain when compared to ordinary similar priced vehicles. A new Jaguar for £20k ? Can't be bad. It's comfortable. It certainly shifts. It might be referred to as an old mans car but boy it leaves many other vehicles in the dust when overtaking. Maintenance is pretty reasonable and parts easy to obtain. Fuel economy is surprisingly good too for a 2.2litre. Pity they no longer make them

Love my X-Type, nothing I would fault, but it is rather heavy on fuel costs!

Good alround car with plenty of visability & car space. The Jag has plenty of gadgets & is comfortable to drive. Parts & servicing tend to be expensive so it`s worth looking around for these.

An excellent all round car bought when it was two years old. It does exactly what it was bought to do which is for load carrying and long journeys. The service provided by the local dealer is excellent and I expect the car will continue to perform well for many more years. It isn't normally used for local journeys. We have A Fiat 500 for these.

This is my third x type jaguar but the first automatic. Most of the time there is only two of us so the interior space is ideal. If we have other passengers we do move the front seats forward as the rear seats do lack some leg room. This is the reason for not giving 5 stars for space and practically. I find the performance adequate for my needs and indeed don't use full throttle and kick down very much. The insurance is reasonable and a touring fuel consumption of 45/46 mpg is most acceptable. This does fall in town driving but still good for an automatic that does not benefit from modern engine technologies. We find the seats support us well and do not suffer any stiffness after long journeys. From a reliability point I have only had to have the o/s front wheel bearings replaced and tyres have been replaced mainly due, I believe, to a large amount of town driving and parking. Overall I find the external size of the jaguar ideal and find that competitive vehicles tend to be externally bigger to the extent I will find it difficult to replace.

A very reliable, stylish car;looks and feels good.Only complaint is that Driver's Informmation Panel is difficult to read in bright light. Pity the model has been discontinued.

This has been the best car I've had over 47 years of motoring. Over 82,000 miles it has averaged 45 mpg and because it's regularly serviced had no serious breakdowns apart from a period of a jammed starter motor (subsequently replaced). If they still made them I would not hesitate to recommend one to a friend if it had a good service record.

A high end saloon car which does 50+ miles per gallon, you just can't loose.

Bought in 2007 when about 18 months old. Up to July this year I would have said very reliable, with just general wear and tear and an annual service to cope with. However, in July the flywheel shattered (apparently not a totally unknown problem)which meant a new flywheel, clutch and starter motor. Ouch! My only long term gripe is the absence of a foot rest for the left foot. I may be old fashioned, but I don't like to drive with my foot just resting on the clutch.

I have had this car for over 8 years and it has never let me down. It has turned out to be a good purchase. I will consider having a Jaguar as my next car although i am not really keen on the newer Jaguar body styles.

After 5 years of driving the car I still find it enjoyable. Good comfort and performance, and reasonable running costs. Useless built-in satnav and generally poor climate control, but otherwise everything is good.

APART FROM THE FAIRLY LOW MPG,IT'S A GREAT CAR.

A great car to drive but it is rather more expensive to maintain than I thought

Jaguar X-Type 2.5 Auto Petrol 4dr saloon - a beautiful car of its day. But now it is extremely costly to run, petrol prices have virtually run it off the road. £70 tank of petrol = 230 miles if I am lucky. It is extremely costly to take it anywhere near a Jaguar dealership for servicing who want to charge me more than the car is worth to service and add parts at exorbitant costs before returning it; so I avoid Jaguar dealerships like the plague now and have it serviced and MOT'd at other more friendly outlets. It is a luxury large car with wonderful comfort, space and performance; it starts every day in all weathers with a smile. It has a tiresome engine malfunction light on all the time though, that even Jaguar do not seem able to get to the bottom of, so it stays on ........ constantly. I won't part with it however until it breaks down and does actually require parts that cost more than its worth to be fitted to get it going again.

A great car, my second Xtype. The first was petrol and was less economic. This one on a steady motorway/trunk road trip will happily do 44MPG. Locally I usually get 38MPG. The ride is excellent, the luggage space is fantastic and easily beats many cars you would expect to be better. It has never let me down and to my surprise copes with snow much better than the petrol version. My three niggles are 1.The pathetic "Ford pop" squeaky horn 2.The sat nav is not so good as the one in my first X Type and has less functionality 3 The 10 minute timer on the heated seats unneccessary and a pain. All in all I love the car and wish it was still in production

A comfortable car with good performance but a little expensive when servicing comes around

I am quite pleased with my Jaguar, I purchased it secondhand over three years ago in that time I have covered in excess of 22000 miles, not a lot I know but when one considers that a number of the journeys were of less than 6 miles the car has performed well.I made the mistake of using cheap diesel which caused a slight mechanical problem, fortunately I had a AA Gold Warranty so the EGR valve that I had to replace did not affect my wallet. That is the only problem that I have had with it . It is kept regularly serviced and MOT,d, that can be a bit eye watering but. On the whole the car has performed well and been fairly economical and looks set to go on for area years with me yet.

Always liked the car, reliable with no breakdowns. Running costs fairly high. Petrol consumption general average 25 mpg. (Do not drive in town or short runs) Used more for long distance journeys for comfort. Cabin not as much room as previous Rover Sterling,(A much more comfortable car which I owned for 13 years, best car I ever had)All in all very acceptable vehicle.
