First diesel I have owned, only brought it because I wanted a front wheel drive car I could use to travel to work in and fancied a jag. I get 47 mpg and travel in comfort had the car for 2.5 years it has not let me down and mot's have been cheap and easy

I have owned the car since new and other than consumable items subject to natural wear ( brake discs, pads etc. )the car has been very reliable. I recently replaces an O2 sensor, but given the age of the car, not a problem. Rear suspension getting noisy; sounds like new bushes required somewhere. I am assessing this shortly. It is fairly comfortable, although rear seat space/legroom is a bit restricted, although fine for front seat passengers. It is a comfortable car to drive. The 3.0 litre engine is pretty flexible, although thirsty. Bodywork has remained sound. All in all reasonably satisfied although I have owned better cars.

The only disadvantage with this car is the level of Annual Tax - £460

I have had about 3 Jaguar X Type for about 7 years and have found them to be very reliable, comfortable and a looker ?,However, during the last few years the cost of running my current X Type has become very expensive. Road tax,Insurance, petrol consumption (26 to Gallon) is proving a little to much at the moment. I think the vehicle is great and would miss the comfort should I have to change but the costs are proving hard to sustain. Regards S.R.Roberts

Having owned my Jaguar X-Type Sport Diesel from new in 2004 I would rate it very highly. Judged on reliability it has been first class, never having failed to start and never having let us down on a journey. It has had a few faults, but with 142,000 miles on the clock this is to be expected. None of the faults have resulted in a breakdown. Economy is excellent at 46mpg. The standard of finish of the interior is superb and far better than the acres of dull plastic in most cars. The biggest complaint I have had is the poor durability of the paintwork around the wheel arches. If the worst should happen and the car had to be replaced, I would seriously consider looking for a low mileage used example of the same model in preference to a newer design.

Very happy with my car, very reliable, comfortable but expensive to run considering its only a 2.5 litre engine the car tax seems very high to me

I find this car to be very reliable and cheap to run with all the comfort of far more expensive vehicles. The 2000 diesel engine is very responsive and extremely good on fuel consumption, the only downside to it is that it is very noisy on tick over but I would not be put off by this. The car is cheap to insure and the road tax is only £125.00 per year (at time of review) whereas a similar spec car in petrol version you could expect to pay considerably more even up to 4 times as much.

Nice comfy car. Main issue with saloon is no back window wiper. Otherwise good economy, reliability and comfort. I would recommend,.

nice car, a little basic, but a good ride.

So far has proved reasonably reliable after 80,000 miles and with it's 'all wheel drive' proved sure footed in snow and ice. I do dread a major fault as Jaguars spares/repairs are extortionate so my routine servicing is carried out by a national garage chain at about half/two thirds main dealer costs. The car is extremely comfortable and a joy to drive although with a large engine I only get between 27 - 35 mpg. and of course it still looks classy.

I had always fancied myself driving a Jaguar. Over the last 50 Odd years of driving I have experienced driving a great variety of vehicles, both small commercial and privately owned small and large cars. I am now retired from work and have managed to save enough to enable me to buy a Jaguar. Perhaps it is not a new car, but the quality of build means that I can enjoy the refinements of this modest yet classy vehicle. This car is the sport version. It is a responsive and fun to drive car. The sports bucket seats are a bit tight for getting in and out of for a pensioner, but they do mould to your body on long trips and are very comfortable. Good solid feel on the open road. Feels like a heavy car, but acts like a sports saloon. I have been pleasantly surprised at the fuel economy. It is still returning a good 45mpg on mixed driving conditions. The modern 'gismos' such as automatic climate control, traction control, trip computer make for a confident drive on long journeys. The car may be approaching 120,000 and be eight years old, but it still sails through its MOT's without advisories. It is not over expensive to service. All in all, I am very contented owning and driving my X type. If I win the lottery I will definitely buy another Jaguar.

Like the car but keep wondering when the next fault will occur

I have been driving my car for 3 years now and I love it. It is comfortable, easy to drive, has many features which I find useful. It is quite easy on fuel and meets all of my needs.

Very reliable indeed, a little uncomfortable on longer drives. Wish it was a tiny bit bigger. Not much legroom for rear passengers

No problems, reliable and comfortable. Maybe not as frugal as some diesels but still very good.
