Overall a good car from comfort and reliability. My main criticism is power to weight ratio on 1600 engine. Find underpowered at times eg . Accelerating up hills.

Lovely little car, does everything that is asked of it first time every time! Is easy to work on so any problems are worth having a go at yourself... Or if you want to modify it the work is mostly easy to do yourself and there are loads of options. Is a little bit thirsty but then she is an SXI but for what she drinks she could do to be a bit livelier for my liking but nothing a little bit of tinkering shouldn't put right. For a 10yr old car with 5+ owners she has stood up quite well with only a little wear and tear.

Very comfortable and easy to drive. Very expensive to run because of fuel costs - very low mileage to gallon. Easy to park and very quiet.

This is the first car I have bought as new. It's called a Sports Tourer rather than an estate which is bigging it up a bit more than it deserves. The 1600 engine is rather lacking so the car doesn't accelerate as quickly as I'd like. I'd recommend a bigger engine size unless you're happy to pootle around on the flat ! The front seats are comfortable, but I found the rear seats rather hard and unforgiving, although that's where my teenage kids sit so I'm not too bothered. However, there's plenty of leg room in the back. I'm not particularly expert in technical matters but even I was surprised there was no blue tooth, iPhone dock or mP3 port (or whatever it's called) that seems standard in most other new cars. There's plenty of room in the boot for the weekly shop, trip to the local recycling, or luggage for that holiday I'd like. Some of the choice of colours were pretty revolting so I stuck to white. The front passenger air bag can be de-activated which is useful if you want to put a baby carrier in the front - I expect that's probably a feature on most other new cars, though! It's a sensible choice for a family car but not exciting.

In my opinion one of the most reliable cars ever made.

I have had this car from new ,serviced yearly and it has let me down just once through normal wear and tear,i have been very satisfied with it.

Not enough internal storage space. Expensive tax. Cost me nearly £1000 for repairs that a vauxhall recall should have prevented. Good size. Easy to drive. Powerful.

I don't run a car to impress the neighbours or anyone else. The car starts first time, every time. It takes me where I want to go in reasonable comfort and safety, then stops. It's reasonably thief-proof: no boy racer who values his street cred would want to be seen in a beige Astra. There are no alloy wheels to get stolen, no electric windows to malfunction, no remote/central locking - in fact a general absence of unnecessary gadgets to go wrong and add to servicing costs. I'd gladly buy another one like it, if it existed.

Comfortable & smooth running car but not enough power especially going up hills or overtaking. During our recent trip to France we were overtaken by lorries going up hill! Would probably be more suitable for town dweller.

having hired and driven a newer astra within the last 2 years i much prefer this 05 model to the newer version. i found the newer one to be more shoddy or tinny and not very good manufacturing whereas this 05 one is reasonably comfortable, pretty good on fuel economy and more luggage space too. if i had the choice of buying an older model astra and a newer one i would most likely buy a laguna because of the comfort and reliability etc but i would not buy a recent model astra. all in all i would say this car has proved to be slightly better than i had expected before i bought it.

Bought after trading in HONDA CIVIC. Good price from local dealer.Took a bit of getting used to after Honda. Although it is a smart looking car and is really comfortable it lacks a little of the oomph of the civic. However I will keep it for a few years.

Astra SE 2.0CDi Auto. I've covered 40,000 miles in my Astra since new and it has been largely reliable and reasonably inexpensive to run. It averages 43 mpg and performance is more than adequate for my style of driving. I particularly like the automatic gearbox which is exceptionally smooth and makes the car easy to drive. The seats and steering wheel have a wide range of adjustments making a comfortable driving position easy to find. This car has the standard suspension and wheel size setup which smooths out the rough roads well and at the same time gives a reassuring feel of security and safety on bends. I've had a few niggles. Shortly after delivery there was a water leak into the passenger footwell from somewhere around the near side "A frame". The dealer sorted this after two visits. After 3 years and 2 months I needed a new battery ( a cell died). Vauxhall quoted a staggering £180 to replace so naturally I found a more reasonable deal on the High St. I suppose I should not have been surprised at the cost of Vauxhall parts due to a previous experience of needing an ECU and alternator on another vehicle. Both horrendously expensively priced items. On balance though, this car has performed well and done everything I've asked of it. Right now, I see no reason to change it for another model or make.

Suitable as a runaround

Our Astra Twintop was purchased as we prefer a convertible for trips to Europe for holiday purposes, the Astra offers good looks and in some cases better comfort to some premium competitors - especially when comparing prices ( we purchased new). The compromise is always that it is only a "bread and butter" car and has little to offer in brand kudos, however, this hasn't stopped as looking at the new Cascada, but this new update - although the chassis is improved for ride quality and the engine now much more efficient, the restricted boot access and return to a "rag top" has meant we will keep the current model for another year or so before seeing what else has arrived in the market place.

Like human life itself, when you get old, your body starts failing you, bits become increasingly unrelaible and you start to leak ! . In your prime you were the best, but now with more miles on the clock you feel your days are coming to an end ! .

Whilst not as economical as was led to believe when I bought the car .. It is suitable to my requirements, comfortable over short and long journeys.Enough space to do whateveris needced, from moving garden green waste to luggage to the airport.

My Astra runs well, has been reliable over the 4 years I have had it, has good acceleration for its engine size and is comfortable to sit in and handles easily. All round visibility is pretty good. The only real problem I have had with it was when the ignition barrel jammed but I found someone who removed and re-built it for £60. It now works like new. Overall I am quite content. Just wish fuel was cheaper.
