I have owned/driven VW cars since 1985 and had a number of different models in that time. I thought my previousGolf Mk.6 was good but this new Mk.7 is fantastic. What immediately strikes me and passengers too is the comfort and the quietness of the car whilst travelling overdifferent road surfaces, particularly in todays awful road surface conditions.

Service & MOT at main dealer once a year is all it needs. Usually can get 40 to 45 mpg depending on the time of year. Just need to check oil, water, tyre pressures & windscreen fluid levels on a regular basis. This is my third golf in the last 20 years. Just put the petrol in & drive. As reliable as Mercedes used to be.

Reliable, economical and comfortable. An enjoyable and a pleasant car to own and drive. No problems experienced during the last 3 years. Would recommend to anyone who asked.

I have found it ok only the engine management light has come on and apparently it happens sporadically. The key fob doesn't work, i have to open with the key, it seems to use oil quickly

I have a 1.9 TDI Match, which has a few extra features. The car has done about 140k miles, 110k of which by me. I have found the car to be very reliable, comfortable and easy to drive. I'm probably driving around 30k miles a year and often undertaken journeys which take 4 hours or more. I rarely feel fatigued after these journeys and usually average 55 mpg. The car is on a long life service plan (very 20,000 miles), which makes the servicing affordable, given the mileage I do.

This is the first Golf I have owned, and I am very impressed with the refinement of the car compared to my previous Ford Focus. Also it is far more economical than the Focus.

What I want is a simple ecconomocal car with no frills that I can look after myself.I do not want aircon, and electric windows which add weight in a small car.I have had this car for about 15yrs,and apart from replacing the clutch and head gasket, its been great.I dare say that if I have an accident in it I would come off worse, but as a motorcycle enthusiast Im used to that. Its now done nearly 180,000 miles and it will be hard to replace.(Its a pity about VWS water based red paint)

A very robust and reliable car. Economic on long journeys.

Most of my trips are local & for this the Golf is ideal, whilst it also being good for longer journeys being quiet & with a reasonable performance. The economy has not been as good as I expected although driven carefully fuel consumption can rise to the high 40's. The DSG gearbox works well but with 7 gears does change down more often than I would expect, but this is down to the characteristics of what is a fairly small but surprisingly powerful turbo charged engine. I find the engine a bit "buzzy" but this is probably because my previous car had a much larger 5 cylinder diesel engine. The car does all or more than I could ask for & more, but in my view is lacking somewhat in style. I would buy another Golf, but probably with either a larger petrol or diesel engine.

Appears to be better made than many other mainstream cars. Has better headroom and legroom than most hatchbacks in same class. This particular model is underpowered but OK if you're not in a hurry and live in a flat area. Best car I've ever owned. You won't go far rang with a Golf!

Very reliable, comfortable and roomy car. Reasonable m.p.g. depending on types of journeys. Quick from start but not too quick. Good room in back for passengers and plenty of leg room in front. Overall I would recommend this model to anyone.

An unexciting car without any "go faster" image but feeling solid and reliable. As a regular commuter from North of England to Southern Brittany with reasonable luggage, and dog, the VW Golf Estate provides a comfortable mode of transport. The ride is firmer than my previous car, a Peugeot 406 Estate, but this is only really noticeable on the rougher English roads. Modern equipment such as automatic lights and wipers, together with cruise control, make for relatively hassle-free journeys. Only one serious omission: no radios fitted by the manufacturer are capable of receiving long wave, e.g. Radio 4 whilst in France!

...like mine, it can prove costly. Have had to shell out on a new gearbox, several electric sensors, engine valve buckets amongst other things at great cost. But then I did buy it cheap from someone who'd obviously not looked after it. That said, I'd happily replace it with another Golf, and hope that this one had been looked after a little more.

Never thought I would own one (too dear), but obtained a good deal for a part exchange, and now plan to buy another - when and if my current one ever fails an MOT!

Totally reliable and not a rattle at 28000 miles & near 3 years. Super smooth DSG 7 speed gearbox. 44 to 50 mpg. 1.4 petrol turbo always provides plenty of torque for safe overtaking. Comfy ride on standard wheels.

A lovely flexible engine, taught but compliant suspension. Usual solid VW build quality. Very comfortable over short and long distances. Good sound insulation. Highly recommended.

does everything i need, big boot, economical, comfy, cheap car tax.

A very comfortable, reliable car. We get an average 45 mpg over a year. Gear box very smooth as the changes are not really noticeable. One tiny quibble is that the car originally designed as left-hand drive so handbrake on wrong side and folding of the back seat also affected.
