We bought this car to accommodate a dog crate in the boot, but this car has proved it's worth for more than just that. From moving furniture to collecting wood for our fire, fitting in everything 5 adults wanted to take on holiday, we even managed to get 3 adults a bike computer etc to take our son to university! This car has never let us down and always gets a "you've got a good 'un 'ere" from the mechanic when we have our M.O.T. Rarely have we had to spend money on it [we needed a new rad last year] truly worth every penny we paid for it and I imagine it lasting us for years to come! *****

Has been excellent for my requirements in terms of comfort, economy of fuel costs, carrying capacity and towing capability. Has been very reliable but expensive to maintain though. Currently over 250,000 miles on the clock, still going strong. Eventually will probably replace with another Passat.

We bought this car second hand about 8 years ago and have had very little trouble with it mechanically. In spite of it's age there is little or no rust on the bodywork and it always starts in the morning. I think it's the best car we've ever had and though it's got 115,000 miles on the clock we are reluctant to part with it.

MY PRESENT CAR IS THE THIRD PASSAT I HAVE OWNED AND I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH THIS CAR MODEL. I CONSIDER THE PASSAT TO BE A STRONG WELL BUILT CAR WITH PERFORMANCE AND COMFORT TO MY COMPLETE SATISFACTION. IF I DECIDE TO CHANGE MY PRESENT CAR IT WOULD CERTAINLY BE ANOTHER VW AND MOST PROBABLY ANOTHER PASSAT. MY CAR IS REGULARLY SERVICED AT MY LOCAL VW AGENTS WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR TO MY COMPLETE SATISFACTION WITH FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF

My Passat estate is just perfect for my needs. I can get my bicycle in the back with the seats down without having to dismantle the bike.It has been a trouble-free car so far. I feel much more comfortable in a larger car as I am 6' and need the leg room. Fuel consumption on short journeys is not much of an issue as I cycle the 6 miles to work whenever I can and take the car only when necessary. Even so, I can get 50 mls to the gallon with taking it easy on the gas pedal. On a longer journey (mostly rural)it is not unusual to get 60+ mls so I think that's pretty good for a largish vehicle. It can also kick on a bit when I need it to. I test drove an Audi A3 before settling for the VW. I thought the Audi was over-rated, over-priced and the VW suited me so much better. I intend to, when it's time to do so, replace this car with a newer version.

The Passat is good, solid, reliable, spacious, comfortable machine - a real motorway mile muncher which is also good in town. Its only weakness is the very bad headlamp beam shape which fails to properly illuminate the road ahead, that and the unhelpful fact that, in main beam, the dipped lamps are not extinguished - a silly idea.

Probably the most comfortable car for long distance driving I have owned, in the 50 years I have been driving. It is remarkably economical for a large car on mpg, which is most apparent on a long journey. It tows a caravan with ease, or a heavily laden trailer. I just wish it had 4 wheel drive and a higher chasis clearance from the road. It can also carry considerable amounts of goods in the estate back. It has some weaknesses around the strength of the steering suspension, but otherwise I am pretty impressed with it.

A bit clunky but reasonably fuel efficient for the size of car. Very roomy and very comfortable. Good for transporting dogs and horse feed. Performance seems to have diminished over the years but still reasonably good for overtaking.

Good car got better when I changed front tires. Now at least I can feel the steering. Lots of small faults starting. Sensors starting to fail, airflow and temp sensor within 2 weeks. Otherwise enjoying the quality of VW.

Have owned this car for 1 year and I'm very pleased with it apart from a few minor issues. (1)The ride is quite soft and bouncy on undulating roads. (2)For a front-wheel drive car the handling feels a little vague. (3)It suffers from terrible road noise which can only be mitigated by purchasing more expensive low dB rated tyres. (4)Unlocking the rear tailgate requires pressing the key fob 3 times; twice on the general doors button followed by once on the tailgate button!!! Controls and instruments are good; lighting good; heated seats fantastic; loads of space; maintenance costs very reasonable; regularly delivers 55mpg in normal driving.

Excellent family car with safe acceleration for overtaking. Economical, reliable large boot for touring luggage. My only complaint is that the instrument s are deeply set in the dashboard cover making them difficult to read in some light conditions. Very good German engineering. I would like to buy another VW when I next change my car.

My current car is the Passatt CC and I can honestly say it's the best car I have ever driven, for the previous 40 years I had driven company cars the past 3 being the Passatt,so when I had to dig deep and buy my own I naturally turned to the Passatt and haven't been disappointed, the finish and extras on the CC model is well worth the extra money paid over the normal Passatt

My petrol engined Passat has now done 233K miles, without any major repairs. The only concession that I make is that I change the oil and filter every 5K miles, and try to avoid journeys of less than 2 miles I have no reason to doubt the car but I feel sooner or later that it must let me down. Not that new ones are renowned for absolute dependability

we had a 1999 passat for 10 years and waere very pleased with it. When repairs were getting too exhorbitant we bought a new one which is very comfortable with all mod cons. The auto hold and engine switch off is economical but the lack of handbrake takes some gettin used to!

Having now had three VW Passats, plus having been to Emden ( Germany ) to actually see the Passat Production; I have never had a better/ more satisfying vehicle.

This is my second Passat that has done in excess of 140,000 miles. Both cars achieved that mileage on the original battery, clutch and exhaust system. I can still drive 500 miles in a day in comfort, and it is a relaxing and easy car to achieve such distances in. I am still able to achieve around 40 mpg driven sensibly on a run, and even motorway speeds return 36-37 mpg. You can probably guess what my next car will be!

I have owned this Car from 5,000 miles - 6 months old and been the most reliable car I have owned overall, servcing is very expensive at dealerships however mine is 9+ years old and with 130,000 on the clock does not see a VW garage anymore. I am still on the original set of brake disks from new despite being told at 30,000 I need new ones and i am only on the second set of brake pads. A very comfortable drive with good economy, will miss it when it has to go!

Good mileage to the litre, light to handle and park, plenty of space for the dog cages.
