I have been the named driver on this vehicle for the last five years and have driven it as much as my husband, we have had very few faults with the car and other than general maintenance costs, have not had any major costs with it despite the mileage being just over 180,ooo. I find it a comfortable car to drive but the rear passenger seats are not as comfortable My husband hs found this car to be especially good for transporting furniture and lengths of wood There is a blind spot on the driver side mirror which I have to overcome by looking around to check and checking the rear view mirror and I take great care when parking because of this and the length of the car Finally I find the only disadvantage being the petrol consumption which averages 28mpg urban driving but it can do 35mpg on motorways

Whilst a reasonable family car with excellent fuel efficiency and low running costs, this car is not without problems. Bodywork:- Interestingly, even from new, plastic body panels on the car are a noticably different shade than metal panels. A thing that Japanese vehicle manufacturers struggled with in the 1970's but, it seems, Ford have yet to master. It also seems that Ford 'save paint' by not fully painting the under edges of panels such as doors Engine:- The turbo lag and following power surge on this diesel engine can be very pronounced, and at times downright dangerous, especially in busy traffic, entering junctions, roundabouts etc. An internet search will show that my experience mirrors that of several other owners Whilst sales staff might tell you that this is a feature of 'newness' in the engine; time has proven that this is an inherent fault. Overall:- I have owned this car from new, and despite its faults this has proved to be a very reliable and economical car.

Poor gear change, sometimes stalls while pulling away in first gear. Loud road noise produced by low profile types, wind noise in cabin.

Now over 10 years old and having covered 102,000 miles. Still going strong. Would recommend.

Owned my Ford Focus Estate fromm new since 2000 and never looked back. The only obvoius drawbacks I can find are the higher road fund licence fee due to emmissions (which is just another money spinning ploy by government in my opion and has virtually zero effect on climate change/ozone layer depletion) and mpg. On a long run over 40mpg is obtained but local journeys see this fall to 30 mpg! Considering that mpg was not the criteria in 2000 as it is today and the engine size (1800cc) this is acceptable when the other factors are taken into consideration. The car is very reliable; handles well and corners beautifully; steering and suspension are first class the bodywork is outstanding with only a trace of corrosion around part of the rear wheel arches; comfortable and great performance should it be required. If the newer versions are as good this is a family car that will take a lot of beating.

It is reliable for long journeys and motorway driving, both of which I do frequently.

Great little car that will hold its own up against much more expensive opposition! Shame about Fords after sale abilities though.

A run of the mill safely reliable vehicle. Not exciting in looks or in any other way but very practical for shopping and transporting large items.

Lovely comfortable car, but each mile costs me 15p, which I consider to be expensive.

I have no complaints with the car and will probably have another when it is time to change.

The car handles well and returns good MPG but it is very lumpy and stutters at 1750RPM on and off. The fuel filter and fuel filter housing both broke within 2 weeks of purchasing the car and I was told by the dealer I purchased it from " oh it's a Ford thing sir...". I won't be buying a Ford again

the ford focus for me is an extremely comfortable car to drive.after a non-stop and 5hrs journey I did not suffer from fatigue or the usual aches and pains after a long journey. the fuel costs I would prefer to be better but I guess that is a trade off of an automatic transmission.i have had no problems with the reliability in the 12 months I have owned the car.although the car has a cd player it also has usb connectivity thus obviating the need for cd's and their cases rattling around and cluttering storage spaces.all in all,for my needs, the ford focus is a good choice.

I have owned this for 3 years, it has not missed a beat in 40k+,very comfortable, with great handling. performance is ok, needs rev's to perform, mpg is exceptable, but not great. would have another.

Had the car for 18 months now, bought with 92k on the clock,Didn't have a full service history but dont expect it from an older car,did the initial service oil/oil filter/fuel filter/air filter,cam-belt and all discs/pads, very cheap to buy the parts and fitted them all myself, car is spotless underneath, amazing for an 11 year old car, went straight through the MOT 8 months later, drives spot on,no advisories. Very impressed with the performance and ride quality, only done a few long trips due to health issues but brim to brim easily get 60mpg on the motorway at 70,returned 49.8 overall since I bought it,this is recording the fuel not relying on the trip computer.Love it,get one bought. Ian.
