I like the car, the idea of it, the body style, the performance, comfort and the spec, and especially the fuel consumption Unfortunately this year, the second in which I've owned it, has proved expensive as one thing after another went wrong. It's going fine for now, except for a mystery sound sometimes on a tight lock at slow speed (there always seems to be some unexplained noise) but I'm kind of waiting for the next problem. I think I was lulled into a false sense of security by my impeccably behaved long-term ride, a Vauxhall Calibra!

My only complaint is that Jaguar no longer make an X-Type or equivalent. Over the last 4 years I have averaged 37.65 MPG which for a car of its size and performance I am satified with. However going forward I would reconsider whether or not diesel was worthwhile and certainly fuel consumption will figure highly in my choice of car. I have no complaints about the car and if they were still available I would buy another one. I have a detailed breakdown on cost of ownership if required.

In almost 10 years of ownership my Jaguar X-Type has proved to be extremely reliable. It has now done 144,000 miles and has never broken down and never failed to start. The car is comfortable and handles very well, with all the performance I need. The interior is very well appointed. The boot is large enough for all eventualities. Running costs are very low for such a spacious and well finished car. The main complaint, if I had to make one, is that the paintwork around the wheelarches has not proved to be resilient. If I were suddenly faced with having to replace the car I would seriously consider another similar but later model.

She has been a brilliant car. Goes anywhere anytime and never misses a beat. Comfortable, gentle yet with performance. Economy of 53 mpg and travelling at 60-70 mph on motorway. Cheap to buy and to run. Still looks like a winner. What more could I want?

Now 11 years old and still performing very well, with the 4 wheel drive a boon in snow and ice. Replacement parts and repairs over and above routine servicing have been expensive in recent years.

The car is easy to drive and is very comfortable. The fuel economy is good for the engine size and the boot space is excellent

A good reliable car. Averaging 40 MPH, On a good run 50 MPH. Becoming expensive to maintain with age. Sills badly rusted need renewal for Mot.

great car except for when it starts to cut out and loose power.

The X-Type is basically a Mondeo dressed up in Jaguar clothes, with all the Jag niceties. Simple to work on, yet looks and feels classy. Currently a bargain in the used car market because people are put off by the name. It returns over 40mpg in daily use and costs no more to run than our previous 1.6 diesel Citroen

Comfortable mid size saloon with power and safety designed into performance. 2.5 auto with 4 wheel drive you have no worries in winter and are able to enjoy the performance in appropriate conditions. very reliable and moderately expensive fuel consumption balance out to make the car a good long term investment. 10 years on and its time to change but lost on what to replace it with

The car has generally been a delight to own/drive. I have owned it for over five years buying it when it was 11 months old. I have driven some 60,000 miles in it at a reasonably economic rate. Service has always been at a Jaguar dealer. Servicing can be quite pricey. Fuel economy over 40 mph. Very comfortable car to drive and also for passengers. Plenty of storage space. Even after 65,ooo miles engine still responsive. Very pleased with car only reason for changing it will be age plus no longer require a large estate car. Would have considered an X-Type saloon if they still made them !

The best car I have ever had. Nice sporty look for a mid range car. Sorry Jaguar did not continue this model after 2010. All the comforts one could want for a family car.

The Jaguar X Type diesel has been much maligned by a biased motoring press without appropriate consideration or justification. I have had 3 interrupted by a brief period of BMW 3 series ownership. If you believe the motoring press the Bavarian mid range executive car is the ultimate driving machine. In my experience it was the quickest route to putting my back into spasm due to the offset driving position and the quickest route to boredom on a journey of any length. With a cockpit of black plastic and brushed aluminum it purports to be cutting edge but is in fact like something out the seventies with little by way of gadgetry to keep you amused. Compare that to the sumptuous leather heated seats of the Jaguar which hold you firm and keep you comfortable mile after mile guided by your 7 inch SAT NAV guided climate controlled environment. The steering on the BMW 3 series may be fractionally tighter and more direct but that is marginal and is more than compensated for by the the limpet like road holding of the Jaguar in all road conditions in all seasons. Road holding on the BMW is fine April to September, if its not too wet, but you need to invest in winter tyres to drive with any confidence in the winter road conditions, where I live for the rest of the year. In the 18 months I owned a 3 series nobody ever stopped me to say I really think your car looks great. It is a weekly occurrence with the Jaguar X Type. The BMW is a triumph of marketing over engineering. The Jaguar X Type is engineering excellence which was victimised by negative press marketing. The BMW 3 series left me cold, I always leave my X Type with a smile on my face and looking forward to my next trip.

I have now driven over 30,000 miles in this Jaguar, having bought an ex demonstrator model with just under 6,000 miles on the speedo. During this time the vehicle has not had any breakdowns and has proved to be a reliable purchase. Running costs I consider are reasonable for the type of vehicle and on motorway driving I get an indicated 50 mpg which I think is good for a car of this type with 2 passengers and luggage. Performance is again generally good with fast acceleration (all that I require), good cornering and braking. There is good space for luggage in the boot and with the state version there is better headroom for taller passengers in the rear seats. I find that with the current low-profile tyres fitted replacement has to be carried out more often than with conventional cross ply/radial tyres that are fitted to my other cars.

Since having this car from virtually new it has rarely let me down and for long journeys is comfortable and easy to drive. I have had enormous pleasure from it and I am reluctant to change it but believe that I should or else the good memories will be overtaken by events. I am having difficulty reconciling the fact that I will pay twice as much as I paid for this car as I will for the next and it will not be as comfortable or as enjoyable but cheaper to run. I ought to downsize not just for greenness and economy but because I can no longer justify such a car for mu non-commuting life ahead.

Just a god solid reliable car that I bought from ney , it has done 147,000 miles and is still running well. It is very comfortable, it is doing a little less mpg than it used to but if you travel with a light right foot then it is fine! The only expensive thig about it are the service costs is you use a Jaguar garage. I have recently changed to use a local garage for this work.

I bought this car as a replacement for my Land Rover discovery as it also had all wheel drive and it had air con and leather seating, (The Disco 2.5ltr had not) however it was a petrol model where as my disco was diesel and therefore got about 35 miles to the gallon where the Jaguar only gets about 19 to the gallon and I have found the airbag and the Engine management warning lights keep coming on. It is therefore very expensive to run and although it is very fast (road tests state 146MPH)the road tax is £280

We needed a vehicle that could combine being able to hold shopping for a small hotel/retreat and be able to drive distance from Scotland to the Midlands economically and in comfort. So far this vehicle has performed as we want. Other estates of this size have a lower fuel economy which is important to us.
